If i could give more stars, I would. Captain Joe was as good of a host as you could ask for. Professional, knowledgeable, and just a DAMN good time.
We saw everything from diving ospreys, jumping rays and sharks, manatees, dolphins, a loggerghead turtle and more. Then spending time diving for shells and fossils. Couldnt ask for a better way to spend time on the water.

Captain Joe is a very knowledgeable captain & wonderful person! We had the best sunset ride, saw manatees & dolphins, learned about the area, and enjoyed the salt & mist :) This was my second time on one of these tours, the first was in Dec 2022 and I’m so happy I came back for another one! Will definitely do so again :)

It can’t possibly be put in words how wonderful Captain Joe is and he HAS to be the one as your tour guy. He makes the time so relaxing and fun!! His prices are down right cheap!! He has beautiful boat and more beautiful heart!!

Our family had a wonderful evening aboard Captain Joe’s Sunset Cruise — and it delivered on every front. We were treated to a playful dolphin sighting and a truly spectacular sunset that made for an unforgettable backdrop. The boat itself is beautiful and exceptionally comfortable, and Captain Joe’s deep familiarity with the local waters meant we were always exactly where we needed to be.
What sets this experience apart is Captain Joe himself. He’s engaging, knowledgeable, and genuinely attentive to his guests’ interests — the kind of captain who makes the trip feel personal rather than scripted. The smaller charter format keeps things wonderfully intimate, which only adds to the charm.
If you’re considering a sunset cruise in the area, don’t think twice. This is the one.

Just for context, I am writing this review as someone who easily gets seasick on boats. Our family had an amazing time with Captain Joe during our private excursion around the area. Our daughters (9 and 6) were delighted to see multiple dolphins at the surface and one even jumped out of the water toward the back of the boat. We also collected seashells and also found fossilized shark teeth at least 10K years old! Captain Joe’s tours are 100% family friendly and he really goes above and beyond to make the trip enjoyable. He even had surprises for the kids afterward!
And guess what? I actually did not get seasick at all - thanks to Captain Joe’s consideration of waves/current and thoughtfulness when steering the boat!
Highly recommend Salt and Mist Sea Tours and Captain Joe! Totally worth the experience!!

This is the best captain we have had out of all of our trips! We have done plenty of captains I might add. Joe knows all the spots and we have never seen so many dolphins. 🐬 at least 20 just in this trip! Very knowledgeable about the area and the history of the bays. He knows where to find the fossils. No one has ever been so tolerant and kind to our child. Answered all of her questions made a full effort to make her experience great! Thank you for the awesome time.

If you want to go on a boat in the tampa bay area, go with captain joe. This was our 4th trip with him and it was incredible. He is so knowledgeable, competent, and professional. Trips with him are always both fun and peaceful. Joe is flexible and communicative and he takes his job incredibly seriously to ensure everyone is safe and has the best trip. No matter what you want to do; shell, explore, hunt for fossils, see and learn about marine life, see a gorgeous sunset/sunrise, he will make it happen. Bring your own food, drinks, and towels and everything else is provided, he is so accommodating and go with the flow. You’ll feel great about supporting a small local business. Salt and Mist sea tours give you a personal, unique captain experience that can’t be replicated by a larger corporation. Even more than a 5 star experience.
