Due to recent events in our personal lives, my family and I were advised to get an emotional support animal. All we knew was that we had to contact a mental health provider to obtain a letter stating our need for one upon evaluation. Not knowing much else, I left a voicemail simply stating that I had questions regarding the process. The call I got back from Dr. Wilhelmina S. Koedam was baffling. She was extremely insensitive and patronizing because I didn’t know how an ESA is attained, as if I was her coworker and not a potential patient.
