About UF Small Animal Hospital

UF Small Animal Hospital is a place of hope and compassion for animals in need. They provide exceptional service, treating each animal with respect and care. The hospital is staffed with skilled professionals who are dedicated to saving lives, such as the case of a guinea pig named Mr. Pig who received urgent help for overgrown teeth, and a dachshund who was brought in unconscious after being poisoned. The hospital's quick response and expertise saved both animals, with the dachshund making a full recovery in less than 24 hours. The hospital's communication with pet owners is also commendable, keeping them informed and answering any questions they may have. It is worth noting that there is an additional $1000 deposit for pets brought to the emergency room after 5 PM. Despite the cost, many pet owners find the care and attention their pets receive at UF Small Animal Hospital to be priceless. Many pet owners have expressed deep gratitude for the compassionate care provided. They praised the staff’s kindness, honesty, and professionalism, especially during difficult times. One owner shared how Dr. O’Neil was very caring and helped make the hard decision to let a beloved pet go, while Chloe at the front desk handled paperwork with love and compassion. Others described how the staff were incredibly gentle and sympathetic, even sending a card and beautiful paw prints in clay after a pet's passing. Visitors also appreciated the expertise shown during critical moments, such as a cat scan for a squirrel with a brain injury. The staff’s dedication and empathy have left a lasting impression on many, demonstrating that UF Small Animal Hospital is not only a place of expert veterinary care but also a source of comfort and kindness in times of need.

Our girl Arya had end stage liver failure that wasnt caught by any vet we took her to. Spent about 15-20k between blue pearl Gainesville and Tampa and a couple other vets to not get any definitive answers and proper treatment plans. We were hesitant to bring her here because of the reviews but our overall experience was great. She didn't make it and we had to put her down because she was too far gone but the staff and vets were all amazing. They found out exactly what was wrong, was extremely compassionate, and very reasonably priced compared to other vets we took her to. Will 100% bring our other dogs there in the future.

I can’t speak highly enough about Dr. Markos Antonakakis. He kept us in the loop the entire time through our French bulldog’s battle with a terrible case of IVDD — calling after surgery, and twice a day during post-op care. His bedside manner is incredible and we are thankful that we had him caring for our sweet Charlie.

I HATE VETS! French bulldogs x2

They are over priced, make educated guesses, and seem to not listen as you describe issues?!? This was apparent with UF when my husband ( not UF) diagnosed my dog with Addison’s disease after googling her blood work and her literally dying!!! The Dr in E.R. tested for Addison’s and sure enough….. thats what she had!

This is after going to other vets in Gainesville including Haile Vet- THE WORST ONE ( Haile Vet almost killed both my dogs, do not care, thy are all about money, have spent thousands there, don’t go to Haile!!!!) and deciding to try UF that lead us to Dr. Holemer.
