Pueblo Animal Urgent Care

We were told we had to drive to the Springs when I called about my girlfriend’s dog choking and had something lodged in his throat. They had 4 patients and were so backed up, delayed on taking any current animals in Pueblo’s location. Even while my friends dog was currently scratching at his throat, panicking himself and labored breathing. We were told to drive 50 minutes to a Springs Animal Emergency Vet located on Tuft. Which is on the north side of the Springs, up by Interquest Parkway. I thought being a Pueblo location, after vet hours, the location vet’s tell you to go if it is an emergency after 5pm, they would be able to take emergencies and be seen in order of urgencies importance. I had a choking dog and got turned away and sent to the Springs! I thought places caring for animals would do what they could for the animals in emergency situations. But would rather send a dog that’s choking 50 minutes up the road. I honestly don’t see the point of being a place to call when in an emergency situation with their fur pets if they turn you away in an emergency. Highly disappointed in the way our situation was not even willing to be seen at this clinic.

We went here on Sunday. On the way our 10 year old soul dog with lymphoma passed away minutes before we arrived. The lady who came out to get him was so kind and gave us all the time we needed with him in the car. She was so gentle and nice. He was cremated and was ready for pickup 5 days later. We received him in a beautiful urn, some of his hair, his beautiful paw print and a pendant with his picture on it. All of this in a beautiful bag. We appreciate the kindness of this place. We will forever miss our boy.

Brought my dog here due to an abscess on his neck that was affecting his breathing. By the time we arrived, some of the contents had drained further down his neck and the lump was no longer compressing his airway. But it had grown quickly, so I didn't want to leave it overnight.

Instead of investigating, asking questions, anything at all, they intercepted us in the parking lot and after I explained my concern they glanced at him for about half a second then coldy and condescendingly retorted that he looked fine. Didn't even check gums, didn't take resp rate or any vitals at all, just completely brushed us off.

Now that I work in emerg myself and am responsible for triage, looking back on this experience I'm nothing short of horrified.

If someone tells you their pet is having difficulty breathing, it is your responsibility to take it seriously. How can you possibly call yourself an emergency service otherwise?

Anyone with any emerg experience at all knows that resp distress can be transient, and that doesn't make it any less concerning or dangerous. This clinic simply does not care and I'm honestly shocked they're still in operation.

They got my sick dog right in late at night. After waiting over 6hrs in Springs to only be told it would be another 6hr wait. Hes now feeling better after being poisoned by something.

We took our joey in for a emergency a month ago had wonderful help all around everyone was so nice and so caring I thank them so much

We found them to be compassionate, kind, and caring. They took the time to answer our many questions with patience and professionalism. Thank you very much for the good service!

I have been here twice for two different dogs of mine. The service has been excellent every time. And the prices are reasonable, very reasonable for an emergency urgent care. The visit today is for my dog that has a skin infection that has taken out about 8 square inches of her hair, I could have waited till Monday and gone to a regular vet. But they are so good, I decided to go on a Saturday. I recommend these people to the fullest!

**update on my review: test results for my cat came back from my regular vet office and he was positive for FIP- the very thing the vet here took the time to argue with me on the phone to say that it was not possible for him at his age. This tells me the vet that treated him is a textbook vet and not with enough experience, or at least should have been open to all of the diagnostics we had already been through that I had explained during check in. I’m more upset now**

This place is so weird. I can’t imagine the number of people who arrive to see that the door is locked and have to go back to their car and wait to be seen as curbside. We aren’t in 2020 anymore so I don’t see the purpose of this. The girl who attended us at the car with paperwork was very friendly and compassionate so she is not at all included in any negative part of this review. I told her everything we had already been through with my cat- visiting vet regularly for last several weeks, anemic, low red blood cell count, fluid in the abdomen, all other levels of blood reading normal, currently stomach fluids sent off to be tested for FIP from his regular vet, if ruled out then suspected cancer. I made it aware I was already on the path of diagnostics with my regular vet and I came by because he was dehydrated, needed fluids and possibly oxygen to keep him stable while we continue to wait a game plan from my vet. It was Christmas Eve so this is why I found myself here. I kept being told that they can’t do anything for his anemia because they don’t have blood- I never asked for a blood transfusion so I don’t know why they kept telling me this (But also, why is this an emergency vet if they don’t have these things on hand and if they have to send people to springs for true emergency care?). The doctor also argued with me on the phone and said that at his age FIP isn’t at all possible. This is the test that my regular vet had sent out after ruling out many other things. In older cats FIP is unlikely but still very possible. I didn’t come here to become a regular patient, this is an emergency place who is meant to stabilize animals in an emergency. That’s what I came here for. I found myself on the phone with the doctor who was telling me everything I already knew was going on with him, but also telling me I was wrong. When she said his temp was at a hypothermic level I demanded to have him back quickly because I didn’t want him to die with a bunch of people who wouldn’t even let me in to be with him. They gave him subQ fluids and gave him back to me. On the resulting paperwork, the notes read that I was refusing diagnostics and treatments, but “convinced” to give fluids. This is ridiculous because upon arrival I asked for fluids- it even says so on the same paperwork. I didn’t ask for him to be diagnosed because we’d already been through that with his regular vet. I don’t know how to conclude this, I just wish the doctor would have taken the time to understand the full situation, would not have taken the time to argue with me, and I really do not like how you are not able to go in with your pet and talk to the people who are seeing them in person. This place made me feel so uncomfortable and next time I’m in an emergency I’m going to avoid this place.

Can't really call it an Emergency vet clinic, it's more like an after hours euthanize clinic. Because that's all it's good for. Don't get me wrong the staff was sympathetic the whole time but the way you're greeted has to be one of the worst ways. Your in a panic because your fur child is in dyer need for medical help and their just worried about money and how they're going to get paid. I wasn't able to fill out the paperwork because I was so upset at the time, leaving us in the parking lot while they took their sweet time going back and forth with my paperwork asking how am I going to be paying for the services. When my dog is literally dying in my back seat Telling me that their going to send me to Colo Springs, because there is nothing they can do for him here. They could start blood work to access the problem and by the time I get to Springs they'll have the information ready for the other ER clinic, but I had to put a $1000.00 deposit down. I decided to just put my dog to sleep rather than him suffer all the way to Springs and they wouldn't be able to help him there either. By the time it took them to come out with a rolling table and got him out of my truck just as they were rolling him in to prep him for euthanasia he had already passed away. He was around complete strangers when he passed away. Because my kids and I weren't allowed to go in the building until they had him all set up to be put to sleep. We had to wait in the parking lot, we were told he passed away before they could even start. To be honest I don't think I even seen the veterinarian at all. I'm pretty sure all that I seen was just the staff. I totally understand that they need to be paid, but there has to be a better way of greeting your customers and having better bedside manners.

My dog had a seizure today and i immediately brought him to this urgent care for help or answers as to why he had the seizure as he’s never had them before.
It took them almost an hour before they even came to get my dog. They refused to let me come inside with him and said they’re short staffed and that was somehow why i couldn’t come inside to oversee my dogs care.

$145 for their unprofessional vet to accuse me of having weed in my home (we do not partake) and then went as far fetched as to say a CROW PICKED UP A ROACH AND DROPPED IT IN MY YARD AND MY DOG ATE IT…. then finally said “or a seizure”. ran 0 tests. barely even looked at my dog and told me he was in a crate.

Don’t come here unless you want to spend money on ZERO answers and be accused of having marijuana in your dogs reach when there is a serious medical issue happening.
