Due to unfortunate circumstances, my mom has been admitted to this hospital on 3 occasions over the course of 2 years. Each admission stay was over a week. And I can truly say each time we have been met with kindness and care. From the nurses, the doctors, the therapists, janitorial and cafeteria staff, they all helped make a tough situation tolerable. Of course there were a few difficult RNs/CNAs, but not enough to overshadow the amazing care provided by others. Thank you to the entire hospital team!
This review rating really isn't very fair. The care, doctors and nurses were excellent as was the surgeon who performed the surgery. HOWEVER, the building, itself, is terrible. It's old and even has the seismic rating next to the elevators. In a nutshell, it's barely passable. The time it took to get a room from the ED to the main floor was more than 14 hours! And when we got to the floor, it was a shared 4 person room with one patient yelling all night she was in pain! When asked if we could get another room with less people, we were given ear plugs (as if, here's your private room...). To make matters worse, this particular room was next to the supply room with staff banging doors and speaking loudly and also next to the exit from the surgical suite where you saw garbage and old tubing from the surgeries coming out in HUGE carts. I know everything was bagged, but this was just gross. This room was in the worst possible location and should have been converted into offices or storage rather than patient care... The next day when surgery was scheduled, there was a delay, but when the surgery finally happened, it was a success! The surgeon and other surgical staff and nurses were first rate. Post-op, we were given a shared, semi-private, 2 bed room, which was much better than the first room we had. We were discharged the next day with outpatient follow ups over the next couple of weeks. Overall, the experience was meh. The doctors, surgical staff and nurses were and are WONDERFUL, but the hospital is just the pits. If Providence is really running this place, they need to divert some of their capital improvement dollars to updating and expanding the number of private or 2 bed rooms and eliminating the 4 bed wards. There are other hospital options in the area and if your doctor or surgeon goes to the other ones, consider that before being admitted here. But if you have to be admitted, get some noise cancelling ear buds and hope that you don't get a 4 bed room. For a Catholic hospital, that hope turns into prayer real fast, especially after 14 hours...
The care and attention I received from Sandra, Maria and Cesil in Medication Management as well as Gloria in Pharmacy was exceptional! I have never been so cared for at any other South Bay medical facility. I had a very complicated situation that needed to be swiftly implemented. This team skillfully handled everything for me, from the orders to insurance and even worked with the pharmaceutical company to make sure my co-pay was a fraction of the price it would have been without the Providence Little Company of Mary team working on my behalf. Once I arrived at the hospital, they were gentle, helpful and communicative. Very professional A-Team! Thank you!
