During the pandemic, I was looking for a fun activity that would be good for my health. I was drawn to Pamana Kali because they had online classes and they take a well-rounded approach that includes practical application, art, and culture.

Guro Alvin, the founder, is a patient teacher that emphasizes practical application. He focuses on fine tuning simple techniques that work in live scenarios. He also structures his lesson plan in a way that facilitates neuroplasticity by constantly introducing new motor patterns during the exercises. This makes class a challenge after a long work day, but it's good for the ol' noggin!

Kuya Eli is the instructor at the Long Beach location housed within Kubo LB on Atlantic Ave. The classes are small, which leads to lots of helpful individual attention. We mix it up and practice kali, silat, illustrisimo, and more. Kuya Eli is on the younger side and teaches with enthusiasm and humor, making the learning environment playful as well as challenging.

If you're lookin for a fun and safe environment to learn the art of stick fighting, check out Pamana Kali!

This is one of the most non-inclusive places to train. They don’t understand real combat as they are actors and train for the movie screen so you see a lot of techniques that have not been pressure tested. Furthermore they are total jerks and don’t understand how to train people in a fun positive way they literally just nitpick everything you do. In summary great for actors and LARPers not great for people who want to train combat skills and self defense.

I just completed my month trial last night and to say the experience was worth it is an understatement. Aside from Guro Alvin’s pedigree, you can see that he truly cares about all of his students and creates a welcome environment for anyone who wants to learn. Nick, Nick, and Elijah are excellent teachers. They don’t hold your hand, but meet you where you’re at to give you instruction on how to become better. If you have the curiosity, I strongly suggest going for it and trying. I’ll be back.

Shout out to Pamana Kali and Guro Alvin! I’ve met Alvin in the FMA scene in Winnipeg ??. Every time he held one of his seminars, I’ve always taken away something useful and practical. He is a great teacher with such great attention to details! I hope to train with the Pamana Kali team one day! Thank you for all you do for our community! ????

I've only been to Pamana Kali once on a training trip to L.A but as soon as we walked through the door we were greeted with smiles and open arms. Guro Alvin is world class not only in knowledge and talent but in character.I loved the brotherhood feeling I immediately had, no ego! He's a very humble instructor and it reflects on his students that welcomed us with the same demeanor.I've trained with many great instructors, many schools but to me what makes a school is the atmosphere and the vibes that resonates in its walls. If your looking for a place to start your journey this is the place. Pamana Kali will always have my support.Respect always brothers and sisters!

I love this place for it's welcoming instructors as well as teaching the history associated with Kali and other martial arts!My son is always enthusiastic about class and is talking non stop about it on the way home. Despite it being a bit of a drive for us to attend it's so worth it!

Our family signed up for the online training and have been attending these classes for several months now. The instructors are just amazing - all have deep understanding of the arts they are teaching and all are excellent communicators, explaining not just the how but also the why of the things we are doing during class. They also pay very close attention to what you are doing and will immediately correct your movements/forms, and if you are having difficulties (whether due to an injury or just that your body can't move that way) will give you alternative movements. I love how Pamana Kali also offers restorative flow classes as well as their focus on the culture.

Amazing group of instructors. Able to take you from the basics, all the way through to very advanced curriculum. Their attention to detail, particularly with the online students, is really appreciated.
