My daughters have been taking hula lessons with Kahea for over a year now and we are so happy we found her Hālau! Kahea makes it fun for the kids while teaching them hula. She puts on a show every year that the kids love being in. If you are looking for a place for your kids to take Hula lessons Kahea is the best!
I've taken adult hula classes with Kumu Kahea and found her group classes to be challenging, social, and fun all at the same time! But I got so much more out of a private lesson than probably 5 group lessons combined. This Kumu is above all others - she helps you understand the lyrics in ways that naturally translate into beautiful story telling. After one single private lesson, I not only learned choreography and proper technique; but I was able to embrace the music and perform in a way that was emotional, graceful, and spiritual. Thank you, Kumu, for embodying the true aloha spirit in all that you do.
A friend of mine recommended this Hālau to me, as her daughter was a member and she highly recommended Kumu Kāhealani. My daughter was very apprehensive at first, but it only took one class for her to get hooked. She joined right away. I even joined the Hālau myself and take adult level classes. It's been a gift to enjoy this together with my daughter, connecting to our ancestry and learning so much more about the beautiful Hawaiian culture. This Hālau is rooted in tradition and authenticity, which was one of the things that drew me in right away. Highly recommend!
