When you call your primary care provider for a follow up on something that almost resulted in a 911 call, they have no way to get you in quicker, expect a month turn around. Even when calling right when they open and saying it is urgent.

Bad skiing accident on Feb 6th - 7 broken vertebrae with surgery (extremely lucky I can walk), 2 broken ribs, will need a shoulder replacement, and a TBI (with need to sedate me for a day). The pain I was in made my previous kidney stones experience seem pleasant. Fantastic care at Barton Hospital , South Lake Tahoe. As a former LifeFlight pilot, I spent a lot of time in an ER so it was easy for me to recognize truly great care.

I would not recommend Barton due to the fraudulent billing tactics. I went to Barton urgent care at Stateline after becoming sick while on a ski trip to heavenly . The initial Covid (antigen), RSV & flu A and B came back negative, but I had a high fever. My doctor at the urgent care was concerned so he ordered a more sensitive test for the above 4 viruses using a “standard PCR test” sent to the hospital laboratory to be performed. The hospital laboratory instead of performing the standard PCR test, which was what the doctor ordered. They ran a proprietary lab analysis PLA test on an expensive machine resulting in a $900 bill when the standard PCR test should’ve been performed. The proprietary lab analysis PLA is not medically necessary and is fraudulent and wasteful but I am sure this was done to upCode the CPT to charge the insurance and myself a higher amount for this test I called Burton health and spoke to the billing department and filed an appeal requesting that Barton simply re-process the claim using the standard PCR CPT billing code, which is appropriate for the lab that my doctor ordered. . I called back after a week and was told by the billing CS rep that my appeal was rejected, but no one could give me a reason & no mamager was available NOTE: My medical records reflect the doctors orders for a standard PCR test and not a PLA!!!!! Clearly there was an incentive financially for someone at the lab to perform the up coated lab test that was not necessary and bill me for this up coated lab. There was no medical reason to perform the proprietary lab analysis when the standard PCR test was medically sufficient in ordered. ATTEMPT TO RESOLVE INCORRECT CPT BILLING CODE: I called the urgent care and spoke to the operations manager ANICA Correll . She confirmed that my medical records showed that the doctor ordered the standard PCR for the four virus flu, Covid & RSV AND TOLD ME SHE WOULD CONNECT WITH THE DIRECTOR OF THE LAB TO BETTER UNDERSTAND WHY THEY CHANGED THE LAB WORK ON THE BACK END AND DID NOT PERFORM. THE LAB TEST IS ORDERED BY THE DOCTOR.. I still have not heard back from anyone at Barton health on why they upcoded the PCR standard task to a PLA proprietary lab analysis lab which resulted in the $900 bill!!!!! Literally no accountability for this unethical up code in CPT billing. CONCERN: UNETHICAL & FRAUDULENT BILLING: The billing practices at Barton health represent fraud, waste, and abuse, and I will be reporting these to OiG as well as the insurance commissioners office into my Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance company to do a full blown audit. ‼️Beware of the billing scams that are done by this healthcare organization‼️

My dad came out of the ER hospital with a needle still in his arm... so unprofessional. When we went back to the ER to tell them that the doctors left a needle in his arm the nurses started laughing. "Best hospital in the world" my ass.

The knowledge of staff and people that answer the phone is astoundingly incompetent. And the amount of calls gone un answered and put on hideous hold is unacceptable. The lack of choices is frustrating and unfair for quality health care! Does not bring confidence in the system and unfortunately living in So. Lake Tahoe, it is the only game in town!!!!!!!!

BARTON ER took prompt accurate care of me two nights ago. The problem was a nasty Bee sting reaction. Their management was thorough, kind efficient appropriate...and I know because I am an internist MD myself. Five stars! and thanks!

Physical Therapist Courtney CarMichael Hight is a cyber bully who targets small innocent children! She should not be allowed to be anywhere near children. My daughter is a victim of hers. Posting a photo of my 8month old daughter, then proceeding with derogatory comments with other grown adults. After researching, it’s very clear my daughter is not the only one she has done this to. While my daughter is not a patient of hers, it appears some of the other children she’s posted names of are. This is absolutely disgusting. Cyber bullying is NOT a joke. The is a serious matter and needs to be treated as such.

Cindy, the mammography scheduler, is wonderful! I had to get an urgent mammogram while traveling in the Tahoe area, and she was able to fit me in on short notice, then when the scanner was out of order the day of my appointment, called over to another hospital in the area to get me in that day. She went out of her way to get me the care I needed during a scary time, and I'm very grateful for her help.

I have not even had my surgery yet but I want to compliment my surgeon Dr. Holoyda and Dr. Orr who was my Anesthesiologist who was helping me set up my surgery. Let me first say that I was a VP at some of the finest hospitals in Southern California . Dr Orr spent 2 whole days with many calls making sure that I would be safe for surgery and I so appreciate that. I hope my stay is just as terrific as my care before my surgery even begins on 4/2/2024.
