I had a rather remarkable experience today. A short time ago my neighbor Marty died while his wife Alix was at work. While the emergency personnel were there walking Alix through the process and waiting for the coroner, she had to decide what to do with his body. Trauma on trauma. She knew that Marty did not want to be embalmed or cremated but had no idea what her options were. I remembered Eggen & Lance had advertised a GREEN Burial in one of their ads in the Gazette so we called them. Right away a very kind man named Matthew talked with Alix about her options. They are the only licensed Green Burial in Sonoma County, so they could help. In the time between Marty's death and today's memorial service at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Matthew provided support and services to Alix that softened the blow of Marty's death and guided her on a path that made her feel she is fulfilling Marty's wishes. Today his body was in a beautiful pine box - with holes to let nature take its course, placed in a grave on a lovely hill on the edge of an oak woodland. He is with six other people who also chose this natural way to rest in peace. Each had a rock carved with their name, etc. and on Marty's was his favorite song by Frank Sinatra...“I did it my way.” Yes, you did Marty. Your life and your death. Well done! THANK YOU Eggen & Lance for having this option and for being so kind and supportive.
