I’ve been going here for the last two years for my dog. With all the routine check ups, things were fine. In the last couple months, my dog had a pretty bad cough, I did all the testing panels, which were all negative. At this point, Dr. Hillenbrand insisted that the only path forward was to do a bronchoscopy. If you don’t know, this is a $7K procedure. My hunch this whole time is that my dog just has allergies. I tried to negotiate with the vet to see if we could do any thing less invasive to treat my dog and she declined saying there was no other path forward that. She sent me on my way with a list of vet hospitals that will do the procedure and no medication or anything short-term to manage my dog symptoms. Thankfully, I got a second opinion with another vet at a different clinic and they said my dog is perfectly healthy and just has allergies. They prescribed her an inhaler and sent me on my way. I was very shocked at how pushy the vet was here at Santa Monica Pet Medical Center, refusing to explore alternative treatments and only recommending a very invasive expensive and unnecessary procedure for my dog. I do not recommend coming here. Also compared to the new vet, routine appointments are more expensive here too.

I hate leaving a bad review for a vet, but I’ve been coming here for my dogs whole life and just assumed all vets made up crazy pricing. I just paid $400 for an ear cleaning and swab. I found out that modern animal does it for $45. I’m pretty horrified and can’t imagine the amount of money I could have been saving for the last 8 years :( it’s so sad to want to take care of your animal and get taken advantage of. There is nothing that can explain such a massive difference in price for the same service. Recommend checking out Modern Animal so you’re not scared of random bills when you go to the vet.

The best vet on the Westside. The staff is always attentive and friendly, and the veterinary care outstanding. I’ve been taking my pets there for 30 years (I cannot believe it’s been that long, lol!)

Everyone and all staff from technicians to doctors took such good care of my cat. The level of love and care exceeded my expectations. Absolutely love this vet. They saved my cats life and I am grateful!

The doctor seem kind and helpful. The rest of staff rushes conversions in person and especially over the phone. Feels very transactional and expensive. About 30 percent more than my previous provider, which I only changed due to moving. Maybe they are pricing for the area, or assume everyone going here is affluent, or their own lease went up that drastically. Either way it does feel overpriced, with high pressure upsales, rather than clearly explaining process/ procedure along with reason for high price. I've also read some of the responses to other criticism. Whoever responds send overly defensive, rather than offering an empathetic or understanding response. Constructive criticism is a good thing. It can help a buisness.
