About Cedars-Sinai Surgery - Santa Monica

Cedars-Sinai Surgery Center of the Pacific – Santa Monica is a modern outpatient surgical facility affiliated with Cedars-Sinai, located in Southern California. Owned by physicians, it specializes in outpatient procedures and features advanced technology. Patients can access the center via underground parking on 22nd Street from Wilshire Blvd. Reviews highlight a generally friendly and compassionate staff, with many patients feeling well cared for before, during, and after surgery. The nurses, in particular, received praise for their kindness, professionalism, and helpfulness, making the experience less stressful. Some patients expressed high satisfaction with the smooth check-in process and the thorough care provided. Postoperative care was appreciated, with staff offering comfort, warmth, and clear communication, which helped ease concerns about surgery. However, some reviews noted areas for improvement. There were concerns about the pre-surgery process, especially regarding communication about medications and anesthesia. In some cases, patients felt unprepared or worried due to a lack of detailed instructions and delays in communication from anesthesiologists. Additionally, patients reported feeling rushed during recovery and discharge, with minimal instructions on how to use crutches or what to do post-surgery. This led to some frustration, as patients had to seek additional information from friends or online sources to ensure proper recovery. Despite these issues, the center is recognized for providing quality care in a less stressful environment compared to hospitals. Overall, Cedars-Sinai Surgery Center of the Pacific – Santa Monica is seen as a capable and caring outpatient facility, focused on delivering respectful, professional, and compassionate treatment for surgical patients.

affiliated but not affiliated, discombobulated customer / patient experience PRE-SURGERY ANESTHESIA CONCERN: generic pre-op instructions did not cover a specific med I take and whether it's compatible with anesthesia the next day. When I asked my surgeon questions about anesthesia, he said best to ask the Anesthesiologist. His office put in a specific request that I be called the night before (no longer standard for all patients). Best case I assumed the anesthesiologist, skims all next day patients to identify which, if any, need a call based on their medications. I waited until 11p the night before and consulted Dr. Google and Dr.Chatgpt in lieu of hearing from Cedar Sinai Kerlan Jobe SMOG and their affiliates as agreed. I gleaned from both sources - severe warnings regarding my med and anesthesia. I arrived the morning of the surgery to have the RN ask me what drugs I take aka they did not have a list of my meds, no review for red flags had been done the night before -- sloppy / unprofessional / dangerous? I only spoke to an anesthesiologist 15 minutes before I went in for surgery . Bold signage in the waiting room announces the surgery center is affiliated with Cedar Sinai but medical records are not shared - hmmm. The anesthesiologist was nice. the RN was nice. I was told the med was fine - after a whole night of worry - not useful the morning. Morning of 'niceness' didn't erase the worry and waiting for a call the night before and consulting the internet in lieu of professionals. POST OP RECOVERY: as soon as I came to, I was asked i wanted crackers or water. When I said I wanted to use the bathroom I was told "you might as well get dressed b/c it'll be easier." So I dressed and as soon as I was out I was put in a wheel chair and taken out of the recovery area to be picked up downstairs. Was handed crutches when I got to the car. I was not instructed on how to use the crutches (I have no experience; Day 2 post surgery a friend familiar with crutches had to show me the correct way to use them). Not sure why I was rushed out before being ready and with zero instruction or prep. I know it was early bc the surgery started 10 minutes late, and my ride was told the pick up would be 12:30-1p. Instead they called my ride at 11:20a telling them to pick me up at noon. The ping pong that the patient is put through between the surgery center and SMOG/Kerlan Job Cedars - chasing answers between organizations and departments, each knowing only a narrow slice of responsibility and putting the patient in the position to stitch together a coherent plan of action.

I just had carpal tunnel surgery here a couple days ago. Everything went well, as the staff, from pre-surgery calls, to entry to the center, through surgery, recovery, and release, made things go smoothly. I was treated with respect and compassion. And special kudos to Cheri, my nurse, whose kindness, professionalism, and geniality, made things comfortable from the get-go. Thank you.
