My mom signed my brother and I up in the late 90’s, and I have the best memories of this place. Excited to sign up my daughters soon.

Our family’s experience at Orion Martial Arts has been an extraordinary journey. Our child has been attending for about two years now, and I am profoundly grateful for the positive impact that Grandmaster Laura and her team have had on his development. The curriculum is well-structured, offering a perfect balance of discipline, fun, and physical activity. Communication with parents is consistently clear and constructive, making it easy to stay informed about our child’s progress and the studio’s activities.

Grandmaster Laura is incredibly skilled and genuinely passionate about making a meaningful impact on her students. Her approach to instruction is both thoughtful and effective, ensuring that each student receives personalized attention and encouragement. As a result, our child has not only learned technical skills but also important life values such as discipline, respect, and perseverance, in addition to gaining confidence and building his character.

Orion Martial Arts is a family-friendly, top-notch program that delivers on every front. I highly recommend it to any parent looking to give their child a rewarding and enriching experience.

It is good learning of self defense.

Grandmaster is an amazing teacher. She is the best at encouraging her students, to not only be the best martial artist they can be but to be the best human they can be. If you have ever had a bad experience elsewhere come check out Orion Martial Arts, you won’t be disappointed. Grandmaster is simply the best teacher out there.

Orion is great, specially for kids. They are taught about respect while learning martial arts in a fun atmosphere. My kids love it!

So it's a nice enough facility, and the owner is legit and also very nice. That being said, they are geared to the small kids, like 5-7 at most. My daughter first discovered karate and this school at someone's birthday party, and wanted to join. She was almost 9 at the time. We gave it a year but here's our takeaways:1) classes aren't enough about promotions. Advancing colored belts and stripes require certain skills and to perform those skills in front of the master. But little to no time in a given class is spent on those skills. They play. They have fun. They run around. Maybe 5 minutes per 40Minute session is spent on promotable skills. And if your child dare take a test and fail, no help is given to improve, and retesting is like pulling teeth. (Note as we were leaving they changed testing to only once a month on a day we couldn't attend, so was our final straw for leaving the school). 2) membership is flexible, you pay one fee per month and go whenever you want. Which is kind of nice, but it makes class sizes fluctuate wildly from as few as 5 participants to as many as 40. And larger classes rarely have more than one instructor. Leading to organized chaos and back to point 1, No skills being taught or learned. 3) we joined because our daughter was being bullied at high tech (whole other story there, don't go!) and wanted to feel like she could defend herself, mostly against boys who were physically abusive. Maybe it comes later but self defense and acts which build confidence, in my opinion, weren't touched in an entire year of classes. Luckily we moved her to a new SMUSD school which actually had anti-bullying policies, and the problem went away. 4) on the bullying, it happens here too. Little cliques of 5, 6 or 7 year olds who have their purple belts, feel emboldened to pick on, trick, etc white belts. Those with stripes belittle those without, and the cycle continues for every step up. Would expect more from a karate studio. Probably related to a lack of supervision as noted in #2. 5) business is run like it's 1980. No online portal, no way to pay bills easily or setup recurring payments. Invoices are an envelope with an amount, receipts when given are handwritten and vague, cards are charged 3% convenience fee (even debit). School tries to host events, but unless you get the right flyer the right day you have no idea. No online presence, no socials, etc. Conclusion, if you have a 4-5 year old boy, and you want to go 5 times a week for cheap, and don't need a business with an online presence, this might be a good fit for you. Not really a good fit for anyone else if you ask me.

My son and I are students here, we just started this past month we trialed a few places before this but this was the first class that had the perfect balance of fun and discipline. We absolutely love it! Most sports after a week or two my son is bored and doesn’t want to go but not with this class he is excited to go every time we ask him to. The kids have so much fun but also learn respect and to follow directions and take criticism. I also take a later class with my 6 year old son that has both adults and kids but I always feel the challenge level is still very personal despite the wide range of ages and skill level. It seems still perfectly balanced as the class is really a strong community that teaches each other. With how affordable it is I was able to sign up with him and make this a family sport/bonding experience that we will cherish forever for less than the cost of other schools even with both of us attending. I would highly recommend this martial arts school, especially for kids, we love it!

My young son has been going here for about a year. We love that he can go to classes throughout the week without having to commit to a certain day. The kids learn the tenants of martial arts, discipline, and how to avoid a bully or danger.Grandmaster is incredible with the kids. She allows them to be kids and have fun, but when a rule must followed, that is what is expected. It is amazing to see a room full of kid respond so well to taught self-displine and have a blast while doing it.The price is affordable and the flexibility is great for busy families.
