We recently enjoyed a stay at The US Grant. Our check-in was perfectly handled by Harlie. She was so helpful in explaining our amenities. Our king suite was spacious and luxurious. We reserved our dinner in the Grant Grill with hostess Kaia. She was also so helpful showing us the restaurant. Later our server Sarah was professional and yet amazingly friendly. She was very attentive and engaging. We enjoyed our superb dinner even more with her guiding us. We also enjoyed an excellent breakfast the next morning. All was professional and very relaxing. If interested in dinner, ask for Sarah!
Wow. The U.S. Grant.
As someone from St. Louis, the Ulysses S. Grant connection was already going to get me. But then I walked into this giant, grand, old school San Diego hotel and fell even more in love. Ulysses S. Grant Jr., son of the president, built it as a monument to his father.
This place is HUGE. Literally an entire city block. It opened in 1910 with 437 rooms, because apparently people in 1910 were not interested in subtlety.
The history is everywhere, but it doesn’t feel like you’re sleeping inside a museum. It feels grand and dramatic. Exactly what a historic hotel should be.
