About San Diego Academy of Ballet & Ballet Theatre
San Diego Academy of Ballet & Ballet Theatre (SDAB) is a unique ballet studio focused on nurturing and training elite dancers in a warm, inclusive environment for both dancers and their families. Unlike the typical "dance mom" atmosphere found elsewhere, SDAB's curriculum is designed to optimally train young dancers starting at age two, combining imaginative play with ballet basics. The faculty is committed to supporting students in reaching their full potential, and the studio has a strong track record of alumni securing professional ballet contracts. Parents have praised SDAB for its personalized approach and dedication to each individual student. The leadership, including the director and pre-ballet teacher, are noted for their caring and genuine interest in their students. In cases where students have trouble adjusting, SDAB has found alternative solutions, such as transitioning into "Grown up and Me" classes, to help students continue dancing at their own pace. SDAB offers classes for the entire family, with options available for toddlers, young children, and adults. The "Grown up and Me" class is especially noted as a fun way to introduce ballet to young children. Adult beginners have enjoyed classes led by Kelsey, which provide low-impact exercise through barre work and floor exercises. This focus on fun and discipline helps build confidence, strong technique, and a love for dance. The studio's organization and leadership are standout features. Simone, the Director of Operations, ensures that the studio runs smoothly and is dedicated to helping students achieve their ballet goals. Overall, SDAB is a welcoming and supportive community for dancers and their families, making it a special place for all ages.
I took adult ballet classes here along with private lessons from Katya after a decade long break from ballet. I had such an amazing time and have really missed dancing here since I moved to the east coast for work. If I ever move back I wouldn’t hesitate to restart here. Many great memories.
All of the teachers are very skilled, and the studio is beautiful. I felt like they really cared about my progression and were super welcoming. I didn’t feel held back in lessons, but they also didn’t push me beyond what I was physically ready for. My private lessons and the classes were just the right amount of challenging. They offered ample opportunities to progress,...read full review
Our daughter Ariana attended San Diego Academy of Ballet from the time she was four until about five and a half, and her experience there was truly wonderful. Her teacher, Kelsey, was patient, kind, and incredibly attentive, creating a calm and encouraging environment where young children could learn and grow with confidence.
Ariana loved her classes and often talked about them at home, practicing movements and expressing genuine excitement about ballet. The teaching style struck a beautiful balance between structure and warmth, helping her build coordination, musicality, and a love for the art without pressure.
We had to pause due to welcoming a newborn...read full review
Took the adult beginners ballet class with Kelsey and it was so much fun. I was recently in a car accident and was looking for something to low impact to help with muscle strengthening. The class was mostly at the barre with some floor exercises as well.
