Four stars for the Pearlman clinics in general but five stars for the San Marcos location. We are a cash paying customer so in looking for a new primary care physician I did a lot of research before choosing a practice. After landing on the Pearlman clinics, I then researched all of the clinics in North County, as well as each of the doctors or physician assistance that were on site. I do not take choosing Healthcare lightly and wanted to be certain that the person that we were going to was suitable. After much research online, we chose to make an appointment with Dr. Justin Alexander Charles in the San Marcos location. The appointment making system online is incredibly easy and convenient. I downloaded and filled out all of the new paperwork to establish new patient care, filled it out and brought it with me to the office. Dr. Charles had a lot of availability on his calendar. Once we arrived, it is a busy shopping center because it is right across the street from California State University San Marcos. But we were able to find a parking spot in close proximity. When we entered, we were cheerfully greeted by a young man who was the front desk Worker. He checked us in, took payment, went over paperwork and asked us to take a seat in the lobby. The lobby is clean, simple and modern and does not reflect a medical practice. We were called back five minutes before our appointment time to do vitals and were escorted to a room. The nurse went over a few questions and stated that the doctor would be in in a few moments. The doctor was exactly on time for the appointment slot. He spent about 45 minutes going over in great detail, concerns, medical history, family, health, and was sure to talk about Any overlying mental concerns (given the state of our current world). Even though we were there for physical healthcare not mental. He listened very closely and addressed everything within that timeframe. We felt listen to and cared for and will definitely return to Dr. Charles. When I was looking for a practice for cash payments this was one of the most affordable options and they have a price list on their website unlike most other places where finding out how much the cash price would be is nearly impossible as most utilize insurance only. I highly recommend and I am happy to find this little gem. We will be returning! Now to speak on why I would give four stars in general. Prior to the appointment I wanted to know how long of a time slot was booked so that I could make plans for my day. I called the phone number and it was immediately forwarded meaning it was not picked up by somebody in the San Marcos office. Maybe this is a third-party answering service that Pearlman clinics utilizes .The phone rang about six or eight times and then was picked up. But the line was picked up silently. Nobody on the other end said a word. Not a hello. Not a thanks for calling the Pearlman clinics. Nothing. But I could hear somebody on the other line. So I said hello is this the Perlman clinics? To which the woman on the other end of the phone said yes and sounded quite annoyed and bust in the background! I went ahead and asked her my question and she was able to provide me an answer and was pleasant the rest of the phone call however I think it was wildly inappropriate for a professional in any business to not answer the phone in a professional manner. Even just simply saying, hello, and stating the name of the business would have been the least that should have been done. Maybe this was a mistake or some type of miscommunication with the phone line. But it is worth mentioning in case others have also had this issue arise. If I had not already done hours of research and easily made an appointment online, I would absolutely not choose this clinic, simply based on the interactions when calling on the phone. I can only imagine somebody who is older and not as tech savvy on the computer as I am, calling to make an appointment and then encountering the woman that picked up the line!
I've been a patient since 2019 and have had really great luck so far. So many locations throughout San Diego and through the pocket doc app, you can schedule a virtual visit 7 days a week. I've never felt rushed or like my concerns werent being addressed. If you don't like one provider, it's easy to schedule with a different provider till you find the one that fits you. They also keep adding additional services like neurology and wellness programs. I am crossing my fingers that they add endocrinology next. I would love for this to be my one stop shop for healthcare.
