This was one of the most devastating experiences of my life.
The day after Christmas, I took my 17-year-old cat — my only family — to Midtown Animal Hospital because he was sick, weak, and not eating or drinking. I left $495 poorer, terrified, and with more questions than answers.
There were no physical exam notes in the medical records. None. Just lab results. I was charged for services that I later realized were not done, including a nail trim I specifically requested. I was given a costly dental estimate with no explanation of what was wrong with my cat, how urgent it was, or what his future looked like.
The staff was cold and dismissive. I was made to feel ashamed for being poor while trying to save my companion’s life. I paid with a credit card and drained my debit account because I had no choice.
I walked out afraid that my cat had not truly been examined and scared that something critical had been missed. No pet owner should ever feel that way.
Please, if you go here, protect yourself and your pet. Ask questions. Demand documentation. Don’t assume that what you’re billed for is clearly explained or recorded. Stay with your pet the entire time of the appointment.

I took my 17-year-old senior cat to Midtown Animal Hospital the day after Christmas because he had not been eating or drinking for several days and I feared for his life. I am disabled, on a fixed income, and my cat is my only family.
I was charged $495. When I later obtained the medical records, I was shocked to find no physical exam notes whatsoever—no exam findings, no palpation, no dental assessment, no SOAP notes. Only lab results. I was charged for services that, based on what I observed when we got home, do not appear to have been performed, including a nail trim I specifically requested. There was also no visible evidence or documentation of blood draw or urine collection.
Despite no explanation of my cat’s condition or prognosis, I was handed an expensive dental estimate far beyond my ability to afford and then shown the door. I was humiliated at checkout after explaining I was poor and hoping I had enough money to pay. I paid partly by credit card and drained my debit account. I was even charged for a can of food that was presented as complimentary.
This experience left me terrified and unsure whether my sick, elderly cat was actually examined. I have since filed a complaint with the California Veterinary Medical Board.
If you love your pet, request and carefully review your medical records. I trusted this clinic’s long history. That trust was broken. Stay with your pet the entire appointment.

I’ve been to Midtown Animal Hospital several times over the last three years for my two cats—most visits planned in advance, with one or two semi-emergencies—and the staff is consistently warm and seems to like cats. We’ve gotten in and out relatively quickly every time. On one visit, the vet I worked with downplayed my tuxedo cat’s major anxiety (he always pants, cries, and pees himself when he’s out in a carrier), but on my recent visit, the vet prescribed him gabapentin, for which I am extremely grateful.

Dr. True has taken care of our pets for many years now. She’s amazing, knowledgeable and very honest. Her team is great as well. Even though pets hate going to the vet, everyone there always manages to handle them with care and professionalism.

I have been taking my beloved pets to Midtown Animal Hospital since the early 1980s. Dr. Fuller, Dr. True and the team have helped me with 4 generations of good dogs and assorted cats. And I have friends that have been there with the odd bearded dragon. The service is above and beyond. The vets and staff truly are talented and knowledgeable caregivers. Wish they took Medicare so I could go there too!

Great veterinarians. Our principal vet is Dr. True, but we have had care from each one with complete satisfaction. Office staff is efficient and personable.

It’s unfortunate what has happened to this clinic since Dr.Dinger sold it. Over the years I have championed this place so much and undoubtedly helped bring them quite a bit of business, but I won’t be anymore.
The front desk girl (Sky?) is rude, very short and speaks down to people who are just trying to get their furry counterpart help. After a week of calling daily while waiting to hear back from the vet of whether or not I can get my prescription refilled (the same prescription I get 1-2x per year for the last five years, the only prescription I ever get and he gets this infection frequent enough that the vet told me she’d just refill it in the future) I finally called for the fourth day which is when Sky discovered that my initial request had been in the wrong spot? (Mistakes happen, that’s fine…) Then it turns into me all of a sudden needing to bring my boy in for an exam before prescribing this antibiotic since they haven’t seen him since April… oh but first he needs to get his vaccine! I pointed out we could just avoid all of this by living up to what the vet initially told me that she would fill this antibiotic. I began trying to do this Sunday on the off chance I would need to bring him in, but because somebody messed up - my cat who cannot breathe will have to suffer for awhile longer because my only days off this week have came and passed while I was waiting for a response that was put in the wrong place to begin with.
I’m extremely irritated and upset about this. Clearly they are not worried about the well being of their furry patients, they’re more worried about that $75 exam fee.
