I was on a trip across the country from Wisconsin to Los Angeles and back. On my way back, I swung through the Palm Springs area, and checked out a couple of local record stores. Dale's in Palm Desert was my favorite. I'll assume that the man who I spoke with for several minutes was Dale. Friendly guy, give me some good information about the area I was heading to (Slab City, Salton Sea area.) I should have heeded his advice to get out before dark. Oops.
Dale has been selling records for as long as I can remember, decades, you won't be disappointed, vintage clothes, books, vinyl records, cool stuff. I would rate his store PG for family friendly.
Came in on Saturday with my 10-year-old to build his first skateboard, and Dale made the whole experience exceptional. He gave honest recommendations, walked through every option, and let my son actually build the board alongside him. Nothing felt rushed or pushed. The result was a setup that's both beginner-friendly and genuinely his own.
I don't think any other skate shop in the area would have given us that kind of care. This place is the definition of why supporting local matters. As long as we're in the area, this is our go-to for anything skateboard-related.
