We’ve brought our pugs here for routine care for several years. Every person that is a part of the team is extremely kind and helpful. We also are indebted to their expertise and care on a recent dental cleaning and tooth extraction. If you are looking for a vet to take the best care of your pet, PG Animal Hospital delivers.

I had two visits here with my dog, Justice, over the past few weeks. Both times I was blown away by how kind and caring the staff I interacted with were. I just moved here from the east coast and my pets have always been seen at the same clinic and staff there, so I was a bit nervous as to what to expect going to another animal hospital.
The front staff has always been very friendly and knowledgeable, whether it was on the phone or in person. I think it was Lily (I can’t remember her name, sorry!) who greeted me at my visits and she was a very sweet and prompt. I really like that they try to place you and your pet in an exam room to wait instead of being around other pets in the lobby. While Justice likes other pets, my other dog is very shy and I know she would much prefer to wait in a less crowded space.
My first visit was with Dr. Kaplan Dau and Zoe as the tech. Zoe was so kind, warm, and gentle with my little guy. He wasn’t feeling well and she went out of her way to handle him in a way that he was more comfortable. When she gave me Dr. Kaplan Dau’s instructions, she was very knowledgeable and easy to understand. Dr. Kaplan Dau was very personable and offered a great treatment plan for my pup. She is very reasonable and truly cares about her patients. It was a great help when she took a photo of Justice’s eye for comparison, in case we had more visits in the future. She also left detailed notes in Justice’s medical records, which was super helpful at my next appointment!
My second visit was a recheck as Justice had some worsening symptoms over the weekend. I saw Dr. Alicia and Edwin as her tech. Edwin was very knowledgeable and sympathetic. He made sure my pup was comfortable at my visits, especially since he feeling so poorly. He also ensured I understood Dr. Alicia’s instructions when I was leaving. Dr. Alicia was just as wonderful as Dr. Kaplan Dau. Despite not seeing Justice for his original appointment, she was able to grasp the situation as if she did. She treated my boy so gently and lovingly. She also went out of her way to call the veterinary eye specialist to get him in for an urgent visit and get the ophthalmologist’s instructions for care while we waited for his appointment. She was also kind enough to consider my budget when making a treatment plan while still managing to provide him with the utmost of care.
I would like to add that I feel like both of my visits were reasonably priced. Vet care is expensive, and that’s just the truth of the matter. This area isn’t a low cost of living area, so it is about what I would expect. I may have been able to find care elsewhere for a little less, but I think it is worth it to pay the price for prompt care for my pets (instead of having to wait over a week for an urgent visit that doesn’t need to go to an emergency clinic), top tier standards in treatment and care, the kindness they offer, and supporting a veterinarian who owns a smaller practice.
They are also a FVMA Cat Friendly practice, which is HUGE for cat owners in my opinion, as well as AAHA accredited - meaning they go through additional inspections by an association who ensures a clinic is practicing the newest and most advanced medicine at the time of accreditation.
Justice was treated with the utmost love, care, and respect at Pacific Grove Animal Hospital and I will continue to bring all of my pets here for any care they may need.

You are missing out if your beloved pet is not under the care of Dr. Kaplan Dau, Dr. Rubin and team. We did our research and are choosy about who we trust to care for our pup. I can say that Pacific Grove Animal Hospital receives 5 stars! They are intelligent problem solvers, deliver exceptional care, and give lots a love and gentle affection to their patients. We are very fortunate to have them at our doorstep in Monterey County.

The waiting room is small but the employees are always very nice and accommodating. Sometimes they run behind schedule but they have done a great job helping me with my pets needs and I appreciate their help very much.

Love the entire team!! Everyone is so caring. Dr. Dau is very thorough and gentle. When making an appointment, they take you right in at the time of your appointment, no waiting around. Additionally, they are very patient with any and all questions you may have. At no time do you ever feel rushed. Five stars! Are very patient with any questions you may have

Was driving to LA from SF when my dog tore his claws. He kept throwing off his bandage and tearing the scab open despite our best efforts. They were able to squeeze us in for a literally last-minute walk-in and give him a short physical, then sent us on our way with a more secure bandage and some meds. Really took my mind off an already stressful situation. Thanks!

had a very disappointing experience with their front desk staff, particularly Lisa. She repeatedly spoke over me and didn’t take the time to actually listen, which led to important information being missed. When I tried to clarify, she refused to transfer me to someone else since the conversation “wasn’t productive.” We tried having a conversation with her three different times between my husband and myself prior resorting to this level of feedback— the entire interaction felt dismissive and unprofessional. If this is how they treat people, it doesn’t inspire much confidence in how they’ll treat your animals.

Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The technician and doctor were very thorough and honest, which I appreciated. We will be making this our primary veterinarian for Theodore (our doggy).
