About UCSF Children's Emergency Department
UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland Emergency Room is a renowned teaching hospital providing top-quality procedural care and nursing services. The staff is professional and caring, dedicated to making children more comfortable. The emergency room is equipped to handle a variety of cases, with the staff operating with calm and efficiency. The pediatric intensive care unit is a highlight, offering private and spacious rooms, attentive staff, and responsive doctors and medical teams. The unit's amenities, including a break room and cafeteria with a variety of food options, contribute to a positive experience. However, some areas of the hospital require improvement, such as the waiting room, which could benefit from additional protections against germ swapping, and the hospital's post-procedure care protocols, which can lead to communication breakdowns. Additionally, the hospital's facilities show signs of wear and tear, with sticky floors, overflowing garbage, and a persistent odor. The lack of private patient rooms and the prevalence of loud, inconsiderate patients' families can create a chaotic and distracting environment. Despite these challenges, the quality of care and the dedication of the staff make UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland Emergency Room a worthwhile destination for families in need of medical attention.

We were told patients were prioritized by severity but several full waiting rooms of new patients got seen and we kept getting deprioritized. When I told the nurse we were going to leave she somehow managed to get the resident out to talk to us, who proceeded to telling us to wait...read full review
The wait time here goes on for days without anyone really caring. Just absolute disregard for patients and their time. Hours pass by without anyone Checking on you when you ask when will doctors see your child they say it’s your choice to leave but we don’t have estimate.
