I wish I had read the reviews on Yelp before consulting with BK Paul regarding a structural engineering report. He had reached out to me through an open inquiry on Angie's List. I was seeking estimates for a structural report, to which BK provided a price range over the phone, citing his hourly rates. He said a site visit would be required to provide a bid on the specific cost for my job. I agreed, and after his visit, I felt duped. He provided a written proposal no different than his phone estimate, specifically stating the hourly rates with a "expected" cost, including a line stating that the final price could be higher. Unfortunately, the lowest rating possible is 1 star. That is far more generous than B. K. Paul deserves. Those who paid him for an estimate and felt cheated but bit the bullet and didn't actually have him do the work should count themselves lucky, because it was worth every penny to learn they should look elsewhere. We were not so fortunate. We bought an older home and had it inspected by someone our trusted realtor recommended. He provided us with a detailed report that helped us get the best price possible, so we trusted him. If you have to do a seismic retrofit, don't consider this firm. They advertise a lot. I met with them several times, and then they asked me to sign the most ludicrous contract I've ever seen . It protected them fully, and left wide open the schedule and the cost. (Also take weeks to answer an email,
