We've used The Maids every other month or so for the past 10 years. While I had concerns about the quality of their work, my wife felt it was just easier to continue with their service. The last straw came recently. We pay $225 for their cleaning three bathrooms, our living room and the kitchen--usually 4 individuals for 80 minutes. Instead, only three arrives and only for 50 minutes and cleaned only the kitchen and bathrooms--about 60% of the job. I called and spoke with the owner who not only didn't offer to have someone come back, she didn't even apologize. She even attempted to justify the lack of service saying "well, you haven't used our us for the past year." Pretty bizarre comment considering the pandemic! Lastly, though my wife was 100% certain of their time at the house, the owner, Sue, questioned her honesty! I certainly would not recommend their services but if you do you should pay hourly instead of by the job so you don't get significantly short changed! Chuck Greene

This was the first time I used this service, and it will be the last. When I made the appointment I told the owner that I was in a wheelchair and needed someone who would do a thorough cleaning. She asked me the size of the house (1 bedroom, 1 bath, less than 1000 sf), whether there were stairs (no stairs), etc. She then said it would probably cost $125-150 for each cleaning other than the first one. The first one would be charged by the hour, since they wanted to do a really thorough clean, and couldn't know how long it would take to do that. Although I don't recall the exact hourly rate, it seemed a little high, but OK for a good cleaning. It was something around $50-60 per hour, I believe. She said it would take the cleaners longer the first time as they would really have to get it clean. On the Friday they were scheduled, the cleaners showed up half an hour late, with no communication to indicate they were running late. Still, if that had been the only issue it would have been fine. There were three cleaners, I think they were called the "Blue Team" led by Damaris. They were here for exactly 70 minutes (2-3:10pm), then packed up their supplies and presented me with a bill for $225. There was no indication of either an hourly charge or the amount of time worked. I showed them the coupon I had for $50 off the first cleaning, and wrote them a check for $175. After they left, I went through the house, and was unpleasantly surprised to find a number of areas where they had either cut corners, or simply not cleaned. The kitchen floor did not appear to have been mopped, nor had the open wood flooring in the rest of the house. Kitchen table chairs weren't dusted on the lower rungs. It was clear that dusting was done AROUND items on tables and shelves, rather than being picked up and dusted under. There were three shelving units (two talk, one short) that weren't dusted AT ALL; neither the shelves themselves nor the items on those shelves. Books that had fallen off a living room shelf were simply left that way -- no effort was made to stand them up. Coffee table books were left undusted. Books in the kitchen that had been knocked over by the cleaners were simply left that way. There were dead flies on several bookshelves. THERE WAS A DEAD, DRIED-UP MOUSE ON MY BEDROOM FLOOR. Light fixtures weren't dusted. A dirty dust rag was left on the mantle. Items that had been moved weren't put back where they'd been. The list goes on. To say I was shocked is something of an understatement. If I'm going to pay a premium for someone to clean my house, I expect the house to be basically ready to receive guests when the cleaners are done. I do not think I should have to choose between paying - again - to have the house recleaned or cleaning it myself to reach that point, which is what happened! To add insult to injury, when I figured out the hourly rate they charged, it came to $64.29 per hour PER PERSON, or $192.87 per hour. Even using my coupon, I paid $50 per hour per person, or $150 an hour. There is just no way that's reasonable. The day after they were here I filled out the requested review form on the website and was informed that they would be in touch with me soon. It's been 2 weeks today, and there's been no contact, so I decided to go ahead and post this review on Yelp. Should they reach out to me and make this right in some way, I'll amend my review.
