Finally we had enough! After being loyal customer over many years for my three pets, we had many hiccups there. The highest interest of this place is money, not your pet! Today, I called for an emergency nail trimming, as my Frenchie broke one of her nails (no bleeding no nothing). It shall take no more than 2 minutes. Guess what I was told? ‘Sorry we don’t have technicians available today, BUT, you can see doctor so and so, at 3:30 today, after that, we will have technician available to cut the nails for her.’ So if I choose to not pay for the doctor, no technician will be available today; but if I see the doctor for $75 extra, I will have the technician to cut the nails. Two years ago, that same doctor said my frenchie had heart meme and wanted to send me to her friend’s special clinic! I brought my pet to another vet, it was confirmed that she’s absolutely healthy!! WOW!! No need to say more! Horrific! BYE!!!

We couldn’t feel more fortunate to have Newport Animal Hospital providing ongoing care for our recently adopted dog, Moose. Dr. Tara Mendez has the perfect blend of knowledge, experience, and compassion! She took the right amount of time getting to know our dog and to hear our concerns. Love this Vet’s office. Dr. Hanson has been very awesome with my current dog and my dog before she passed away. I would highly recommend this place to people who live in the Newport Coast Area.

I can’t say enough good things about Newport Animal Hospital. From the moment you walk in, the team is welcoming and attentive. Dr. Long has been incredible with my dog, Gizmo—providing excellent care with a mix of professionalism and genuine compassion.

5 Stars – Exceptional Care for My Dog, Evy
I’m beyond grateful to Dr. Tara Mendez and the amazing team at Newport Animal Hospital for the outstanding care they provided for my dog, Evy. She recently had dental surgery and a mass removed from her head—two procedures that had me incredibly nervous. But the entire experience was handled with such skill, compassion, and professionalism.
The results were nothing short of incredible. You can’t even tell she had a mass removed—the surgical work was so precise and clean. Evy bounced back quickly and is feeling great, all thanks to the expert care she received.
Throughout the entire process, the staff kept me informed, answered all my questions patiently, and treated Evy like one of their own. It’s clear they truly care about both pets and their people.
If you're looking for a vet who goes above and beyond and delivers top-quality care with a personal touch, I can’t recommend Dr Tara Mendez from Newport Animal Hospital enough. Thank you again for everything you’ve done for Evy—we’re so lucky to have found you!

Dr. Giononne was brilliant and amazing with all animals! But sadly for his patients, he is retiring. Our years-long case was put into the hands of Dr. Long. Dr. G would be a tough act for any vet to follow, but I'm dumbfounded that Dr. Long was even hired here. He didn't listen to the history we gave on our pet, made a rushed diagnosis, and carries an arrogant and belittling bedside manner. His diagnosis and prognosis brought zero improvement for our pet, and his time is too valuable for a follow up phone call to reassess the ridiculously expensive testing that he required. He is a younger newby, much too new in his field for such arrogance. The other vets at this location, however, were brought on around the same time, and their sparkling reputations, especially that of Dr. Heathcock, preceded them. I would recommend not avoiding the business altogether, but insist upon a different and capable vet other than Dr. Long. Edit to my previous review: As mentioned, Dr. Long misdiagnosed our pet. We discovered just yesterday that our pet has a large cancer mass, and this had been the actual problem; had Dr. Long caught it, we might have had hope in rectifying it. Now, we will be comforting a dying member of our family.

I’ve been coming to this vet office over a decade and was thrilled when Dr Hansen joined the team. She is the most trusted vet and treats your animals as if they are her own. I have 3 rescue dogs all with their health various issues and I know she has their best interests in mind. The staff are also incredible.

Whenever my dog needs medical care, I don’t hesitate to hop on a flight from Maui to Newport. Newport Animal Hospital has always been incredibly accommodating with appointments that fit my schedule. Their team goes above and beyond, checking in before and after each visit to ensure my pup is doing well. The staff is truly passionate, kind, and empathetic—some of the most dedicated animal lovers I’ve ever met. I feel so fortunate to have been recommended to Dr. Long. Without him, my dog wouldn’t be as healthy as he is today. I’m eternally grateful to everyone at NAH. Truly, I’m so blessed to have you all in our lives.
Marissa has also been an invaluable resource. She helps me navigate the complex agricultural paperwork needed to travel in and out of Hawaii and other countries. Her knowledge of the system is unmatched, and after years of searching, she’s the first person I’ve found who truly understands the documentation process. I couldn’t be more thankful for her assistance.
