About Manhattan Beach Botanical Garden
Manhattan Beach Botanical Garden is a volunteer-maintained garden showcasing local drought-tolerant California native plants. It employs earth-friendly gardening techniques, avoiding fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides. The garden is a Certified Nature Habitat, offering visitors a peaceful ambiance filled with the aromas of native sages and opportunities for bird sightings. While parking can be tricky, it is free and available nearby. The garden is small and can be explored in under 20 minutes, providing good information about the plants, though some may not find the visual appeal very engaging. There are a few benches, a meditation garden, and a butterfly sanctuary. Adjacent to Polliwog Park, visitors can enjoy a pond with ducks and geese, along with park equipment for children. The garden is a nice spot to relax for 10-45 minutes, though some areas may show signs of wear and could be more impressive in the spring or summer. Volunteer opportunities are available every Friday from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM on a drop-in basis.
