I am a cancer patient and was assaulted by security officer at Long Beach Emergency room yesterday at around 4:30 pm. I am a cancer patient who was admitted to ER with heart palpitations, chest pain, difficulty keeping my balance, dizziness. I just recently lost my mother to colon cancer and finished my own thyroidectomy surgery and radiation treatment at Torrance memorial hospital. For the last week I had trouble standing, walking, doing daily tasks because it would make me severely out of breath. I am very low in iron that contributes to the weakness and heart irregularities in addition to my thyroid disability. Plus, my endocrinologist still tries to figure out my thyroid hormone replacement therapy dosage so that I am nit hypothyroid anymore. In addition, I am a 28 year old permanent resident foreigner who is married to an American citizen. I am a tax payer and I have my insurance. Last night I was ASSAULTED and mistreated by a security officer at Emergency Room lobby of Long Beach Memorial hospital, whose shift is 2pm to 10pm. He repeatedly asked me to leave the premises otherwise he threatened to remove me from the emergency room. He took away my wheelchair without a consideration to the fact that I had a “fall risk” yellow bracelet given to me by the medical team of ER. I felt threatened and felt an imminent danger of physical harm coming from that security officer. His whole demeanor, aggressive behaviour, the way he interrupted me without letting me say a word (and English is not my primary language which made it even harder for me to explain the situation) put me into a severe emotional and physical distress. I felt worse, I felt embarassed, scared, humiliated, threatened. My heart palpitations and dizziness worsened. I had to call my husband in tears asking him to rush back to the Emergency room because I was being verbally attacked and mistreated. My husband was absent for 30 minutes to go check on our dog but he had to drop off everything and rush back to the emergency room. Because I was verbally attacked and threatened to be forcefully removed from the premises. I have a right not to feel threatened and intimidated, I have right not to be put into more emotional and physical stress when I am coming to the hospital. Hospital environment should be safe and comforting for the patients. Security officers failed to respond in a fair, respectful and professional matter to the misunderstanding between me and tge other patient that happened prior to the security officer rushing from the other side of the whole to verbally attack and humiliate me. I was battered by another patient who disrespectfully and intentionally hit me in my head to which I replied “why are you touching me?” And she replied with “why not!”. I have a right to defend myself with words (i never ever touched anybody let alone doing what she had done) and said to her “Dont you dare touching me. I have an f* cancer and I did not come to hang out here, I am sick. If you need something just ask and say “excuse me” without touching me let alone hitting my head”. The officer rushed over there (he did not witness the whole incident, he was at the other side of the lobby and did not hear the dialogue that occured). He rushed there only because he heard some loud voices. He refused to listen to my side of a story and just simply yelled at me and said “do you respect anybody at all, huh?”. And from that point his behavior became even more aggressive and threatening. He repeatedly told me to leave, took away my wheelchair. I told him I cannot to step out because I am very dizzy. To which he said “I understand but you have to step out”. Right! After he took away my wheelchair! When I told him I am going to file the complaint and call the police he arrogantly replied “Good luck with that!”. He possibly thinks he can get away with an abuse of power. He probably does this on a regular basis. He only paused when I was on the phone with my husband and started repeating every word that security guy was saying to me.
