I went there in September, 2025 for a serious skin problem; it is just as bad as of April, 2026. I have seen three dermatologists there. From online research, I have a good idea of what their first diagnostic procedure should be, and they have repeatedly refused to take that step. This is a dermatology clinic with six or eight dermatologists, and they don't even have a microscope in the place! Stay away - almost any other clinic must be better!

Haleen Jolly at Coastal Skin and Eye Institute I have been going to for years and she’s wonderful! How many questions and she helped me with all of them and I’m just so grateful because some of them were very complicated. I definitely would recommend her if you need to see a dermatologist near La Mesa.

The nurse practitioner I saw had me get blood work to help determine my skin condition. I had the labs done over 3 weeks ago and never got a call about the results. I called this week to speak to the nurse for the results on Monday, Tuesday and again on Wednesday all around 10 am and was told they would send a message to call me. Today is Friday and I still have not gotten a call back. I would give them less than a one star if I could and will be looking for another office who wants their patients. Ann

First visit a few months ago was great. Doctors there were helpful and knowledgeable.
Today I called three times to follow up on something. Placed on a long hold each time before eventually being sent to a full voicemail box and my call being disconnected. When I finally got on the phone with a staff member and told them this they were rude about it.

The front office staff openly talked shit about me while I was in the waiting room. Do it behind closed doors. Also, if I don’t want to send my insurance card via a TEXT message I can choose that. The healthcare system has been hacked like crazy. If my insurance app supports an encrypted email that is how I will send it. I’m sorry I inconvenienced you.

I’ve been seeing Kiera for a couple years now, and have nothing but great experiences! She’s very thorough, understanding and patient. I had my first skin biopsy with her and I was pleasantly surprised at how quick and easy it was. Thank you!

To be clear this one-star review is strictly for the front office/scheduling staff. My dermatologist is 5 stars across the board
The scheduling staff at this office have exactly zero respect for their patient’s time. Even if you schedule an appointment first thing in the morning there is still a 10–15 minute wait.
I don’t know if they think all their patients are retired or independently wealthy but newsflash we are not. Some of us take time off work to come to these appointments. Some of us utilize the precious little paid sick time we have to cover said cost of taking time off work to come to these appointments.
Yesterday, I had an appointment at 3:10. I also had another appointment 15 minutes away at 4:00 P.M. Knowing on average my dermatologist spends about 20 minutes with me, I even allotted 15 minutes for them to be running behind.
At 3:18 I asked the gentlemen at reception how far behind she was running because I had another appointment. His bedside manner was that of rude indifference – he checked a clipboard said I was next and that’s all he could tell me (I guess the front office is incapable of leaving their desk to perhaps getting a real time update on the wait from the doctor’s assistant?) and then told me I could stay or leave, it was my choice. How dare I expect a provider to run on time?
I was taken back three minutes later. I let the assistant know I now had to leave this appointment in 24 minutes, she apologized and said she would go talk to the doctor and advised me to get undressed. As soon as I was completely undressed, she came in to say the doctor would not be able to get away from the other patient within that time frame so I immediately had to redress.
The icing on the cake? Then having to pay for parking!
Unfortunately, I will no longer be continuing care at this office. The reason my doctor runs behind every visit is because she actually spends real time with her patients to address their needs and concerns while her office staff schedule under the philosophy of how many patients can you cram into one day under one provider (i.e. $$$$). If she even spends five extra minutes with a patient or has to do a biopsy, it affects the rest of her day.
So disappointed in a health care office that prioritizes dollars over patients and their time.
