When I began services with the center I was given a very new trainee counselor who is very sweet and kind and wanted to learn about my situation. However she had a condition that caused her to not be available for the first three appointments that were set and after I saw her for my intake appointment and my first appointment she was sick on my second appointment and I was canceled on my third appointment being told I missed two appointments therefore they would no longer see me. I was very disappointed and felt like my situation was too much for my new counselor to handle I never sought to see another counselor here and am still in need of counseling services
Alpha and their sister company Omega offers therapy provided by students at various levels of their training to become a licensed therapist. I have MediCal and my options for therapists are limited, so I gave them a try. In less than a year I worked with two people. The first left because she took her test and moved on to bigger and better things. The second allegedly had more experience, and while I felt a connection to her because we had a lot of similarities (mostly the crappy ones that I was trying to fix), she was more of a trainwreck than I am and most of the time I was teaching her stuff that I had learned by researching things online instead of her helping me. She definitely had some personal issues that were preventing her from being good at her job and I wasn't surprised when one day I got a call saying she was no longer working for them. I suspect she was let go. I used to go to an amazing therapist who was tremendously helpful but she doesn't take my insurance now. I didn't expect to be able to find someone as amazing as her through MediCal, but I was hoping for something better than having someone read from a Psychology textbook, which I can do (and have done) myself. If you're looking for an experienced therapist, I'd go elsewhere. But if you're not having major issues and this is your first time trying therapy then they might be ok. Just don't get too attached because they probably won't be around for long, and having to start all over again from scratch with a new therapist really slows down progress.
At first I was nervous about going to see a counselor. I've never been before and I didn't really know what to expect. The staff there immediately made me feel welcomed and the lady at the front desk very attentive. My first visit was a really great experience and I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good counselor like mine.
