He was definitely the most knowledgeable person to visit our home .He explained the dew point to us which meant none of the sheetrock had to be removed at all .We laundered our clothes and other fabrics while Montgomery Sansome performed the abatement . “We are very impressed with the work done to our foundation by Montclair Construction. After meeting with Robert to talk about our concerns, we were supplied with a full survey of our floor levels and engineer recommendations. Robert drafted up a proposal and worked with us on creating a plan we felt comfortable with moving forward. Javier and his team did excellent quality work bringing the plans to fruition. Our house feels much more solid and sturdy now after building sister foundations along two cracked foundation walls, a drain swale under the house where water has been creating a small stream for decades and replacing two concrete footings under posts that were tilting due to the water drainage issue. Doors that were not latching now close completely, the areas with growing cracks feel stabilized and I don't feel the same uneasy movements I was beginning to feel in the house. We live on a steep hillside in the Montclair Hills up from a canyon, so fixing these issues before they became a major problem is a huge relief.“

“Ken is wonderful person and excellent at his job. He first started wroking for me when I bought my 1926 home in 1998. It needed absoultely EVERYTHING. He put in a new water line from the street, bolted and sheer walled and reinforced a major beam to earthquake-proof it, all new electrical and copper plumbing, beautifully finished a large part of the home that only had a cement floor and sink with no interior walls, completely remodeled one bathroom, rebuilt an entire side of my home due to undetected termite rot, hooked up all my appliances and more. What I paid is irrelevent because it was so long ago.

What is relevant is that Ken is a magician. Every time you are upset about something not going right (because that will always happen with any big job), he will come into the situation and figure out a solution that makes everyone happy (including a highly problematic architect). I'm totally serious about this. This skill alone is worth everything. His crews' craftsmanship is excellent. He finishes work within the time estimates. This is how good of a contractor Ken is: He has been working in the East Bay since the late 1970s and since the 1980s he has been living in the same home in North Berkeley to the present. You will always be able to contact him. He will always get back to you right away.

In terms of cost, I think he is right in the middle--not expensive and not inexpensive for contractors in the Bay Area.

Ken has helped me with many small problems that have arisen over the decades (painting my house, leaking roof; leaking at bathroom window; flooding occurring at my exterior bedroom door; etc.), and he always comes by to give me his time and advice and to hook me up with reliable people who can help me at the lowest cost.

I just can't say enough about how wonderful Ken is to work with.“

“I have found Alward Construction to be such a class act. Along with work they did on my house, they poured the perimeter foundation for my accessory building 10-plus years ago. Shortly after that, I needed to put the accessory building build on hold. Recently, upon resuming the accessory building build (on my own), it came to my attention that a hold-down was missing. It truthfully felt odd and embarrassing, on my part, to reach out to Alward Construction after so many years, But I did. “One of the most stressful and difficult things to do after you commit to a remodel is choosing the right contractor - because it's your HOME! Fortunately there is Mannon Construction, with a 20+ year Bay Area history, they have completed several projects on my home including a kitchen and home office.
