This is the 2nd review I have left for Burrard Laptops. About 5 years ago my computer would not turn on and the fan was making a loud noise. I took it to Burrard Laptops and the next day they told me that the motherboard was fried and it would not make sense to replace it on my 5 or 6 year old compuer. At the time they didn't have any desktops in stock that I was interested in so I ended up buying a refurbished Lenovo model from another store. Once I had the replacement computer set up I called Burrard Laptops back and asked how much it would cost to get the hard drive professionally erased and then have the computer recycled. They offered to do it free of charge which I thought was great and left a positive review.
So that replacement computer I bought 5 years ago really started to slow down a few months ago. It was still using the Windows 10 program and did not have the requirements to install Windows 11. I brought it to Burrard Laptops to see if it could be upgraded instead of having to buy another computer. I was talking to Charles and he is really a great guy to deal with. I'm no computer tech person but he patiently told me what could be done to upgrade my computer so it would start working regularly again. We agreed on a price and I left it with him to fix. Once everything was working I came in the next day to pick it up and Charles turned on the computer to show me that everything was now working and on Windows 11. But then something a bit strange happened - once I got home the monitor would not connect with the computer even though all the connections were plugged in. Not being a computer guy I just thought that maybe I hooked things up wrong so I called Charles back and explained what was going on. After describing how everything was hooked up Charles said that it should be working so the best thing was to return to the store with the computer and he would check everything out again.
So the next day I brought the computer and monitor back to the store so Charles could check things out. But now it wasn't working for him either. I assured him that I didn't drop the computer when I bringing it back home the day before so there wasn't an obvious reason why it wasn't working anymore. Charles told me he would check everything out and to call back the next day. When I called back Charles said that a part needed to be replaced and that It would have to be ordered which would take a couple of days. But then he offered to sell me a newer refurbished Lenovo model and he would only charge me the same amount that the replacement part would have cost. I had already paid for the original repair so the difference was only $50. I asked him what he would do and he said that since the computer he was offering me was about 3 years newer than the model I already had that getting the newer computer would be a smarter move. He said to give him a few hours to upgrade this new compuer over to Windows 11 and to transfer all my files, pictures and bookmarks. Charles was even nice enough to include an extended 6-month warranty free of charge. Later that day I returned to the store and everything on the new computer was working perfectly. I didn't realize just how slow my old computer was working until I started using the new computer.
So a big thanks to Burrard Laptops and especially to Charles. I highly recommend him especially to those customers that are like me and are not very computer savvy. He will take the time to explain everything to you and will do so in a manner so that you will totally understand what is going on. Thanks again Charles - great job.
