I recently had a haircut and color with Nana at Alpha D Salon in Richmond. Overall, the experience was just okay, but I wasn’t particularly impressed.
During the consultation Nana took quite a long time (around 30 minutes), and even after providing several reference photos, choosing a color felt slow and uncertain. I also mentioned that I wear clear frames, but this didn’t seem to be understood, which made me question the stylist’s experience.
During the coloring process, preparation took longer than expected, and no protective barrier (like Vaseline) was applied to prevent staining. As a result, I ended up with dye stains on my forehead and ears.
The hair wash was also uncomfortable, as the scrubbing felt too rough and shampoo got into my ears. When it came to the haircut, there was still a lot of back-and-forth with the reference photo, which made the process feel less confident and not very smooth.
The haircut itself felt rushed. I asked for about a one-inch layered cut with dimension, but the result didn’t feel precise or well-executed.
Overall, Nana seemed somewhat inexperienced and nervous. While the service wasn’t terrible, it didn’t meet my expectations. Compared to other salons I’ve visited, this was one of my less satisfying experiences, and I likely won’t be returning.
I also followed up by calling the salon to speak with a manager, but unfortunately I never received any response. The lack of follow-up and attention to customer satisfaction was disappointing and added to my overall negative experience. I would have expected proper follow-up, along with a resolution or some form of compensation to address the situation.

Usually the person doing my hair always does a great job but today I went in and asked for specific bangs which she gave me, I said that I wanted layers throughout all my hair. I didn't want my hair to just be one length and after she was done blow drying my hair. I reminded her by asking if she could please do layers in my hair and she said she was going to and all she did basically was take the scissors and put them straight up and cut that way like my hair is not layered. So I basically paid almost $80 to have my bangs cut, a wash and dry, a little bit of fluffing for my hair and a couple curls for my bangs. I have really bad social anxiety but I still tried to ask her again for layers threw out my hair. I'm really disappointed because anytime I've gone there in the past 7 years I've been happy with all my hair and that's a lot to spend on what I ended up getting :(

In the past 2 years, Eco has been giving me nice cut most of the time. I remember the first time she cut my hair I was amazed by her cutting skill. The trim or cut at the ends was done mostly beautifully. She is mostly patient and attentive. Yet, somehow, portion of my hair would get broken and became thin right after the appointment. It’s obvious because that part of the hair would become wavy with a light bottom. I figured it’s probably the product and Eco tried to switch for me. Yet the problem still exist. Since it is so many times already and I understand my hair type so I decided to bring my own shampoo and conditioner. Although Eco did bring the products to the hair wash area but she didn’t use my products. I know because they smell different and now my left front hair side got thin and wavy. I could also feel Eco took it personal when I voiced out I couldn’t use their hair wash and conditioner product. She didn’t even give a head massage. It’s really disappointing as now my left front side hair so thin and wavy but right side is straight. It takes lot of time for it to grow!

I had an amazing experience at Alpha D Hair Salon! The staff was incredibly friendly and professional, and they made me feel right at home. The haircut I got was more than what I wanted and exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for top-notch service and a welcoming atmosphere!
