Took my senior dog (Lola) in over the weekend as she was showing distress with her breathing. The level of care she received was not only professional, but thoughtful. Wait time was minimal, granted it was at 1-2AM, but the process of being checked in and seen was quick.
Receptionist and vet nurse were very patient and friendly, and Dr. Kartolo, who working the overnight shift was kind and knowledgeable. We requested a follow up whenever the results came back even if it meant calling into the wee mornings (4AM). She provided necessary updates and mentioned the team would call again once the Director was on shift for another update.
Dr. Harry Cozens called first thing in the morning and his detailed and thoughtful report was so very appreciated. He was so patient with answering our questions and never once did we feel rushed with any decision making or suggestions. He was honest and truly an animal lover who understands the impact a fur-member of the family can have. Dr. Cozens really helped with our new reality of our dog's diagnosis and I can't thank him and the Mountainside Team enough. He was so good I wish he practiced as a family vet so we could continue with him.
In regards to the price of treatment, it's completely understandable that some may feel they are on the higher end for level of care...but for the peace of mind and medical help at 2AM on a rainy and cold night, Mountainside provided relief for not only my dog, but us as parents. The stress of it all, I never once felt the team overwhelmed us with the cost. In fact, I feel they were very conscious when asking if this was something we were willing to do or comfortable moving forward with.
I am very happy with our experience at Mountainside Animal Hospital and feel confident in their team. Thank you, Dr. Kartolo and Dr. Cozens!

I brought my senior cat here after a nasty raccoon attack. I was worried sick about him as I had found him immobile in a nearby parking lot late at night. He was hypothermic, covered in puncture wounds, bites and blood and I really wasn’t sure if he would make it. Thanks to Mountainside Animal Hospital he survived.
I was so impressed by the care he received here. Because of my cat’s poor condition we had him stay at the hospital for 2.5 days. From the start I was given a treatment plan with a range in cost which ended up being very accurate (in fact we came in lower than the top end of the range which honestly shocked me considering the round the clock care he received). The vets were lovely and SO communicative - they called me once in the morning and once in the evening every day and were very available to chat when I went into visit my cat during the middle of the day. I just couldn’t believe how available they were for me and my cat. Everyone at the clinic was so kind and empathetic towards me and so loving towards my poor kitty. The main vet that was on duty during the daytime was Doctor Lucy. She was SO GREAT.
Yes, we paid a lot of money for the service we received here but I believe you get what you pay for in this business. I am sure it would have probably cost the same at our own vet and we wouldn’t have been able to have professionals watching over our kitty day and night to ensure he was recovering correctly. This is truly top notch care. Based on my experience I would absolutely recommend this place.

Even though between the time we checked in and the time we left....nearly 4 hours had passed by. I'm still going to rate this place a 5. Here's why......
This is an Emergency service. This means you seek them out in a case of an Emergency. Meaning no other options are viable ones. Meaning you need to be seen despite any and all other factors. Including waiting. You have no other option. No other choice. So, you wait. To get done. What you need done. For the Love of Your Pet.
The place has plenty of free parking. In Vancouver this is unheard of and we instantly appreciated it, especially in a time of distress over our Kitty. Once we entered, it was a bright, spacious, clean and welcoming environment. A coffee/tea station, kids area, 2 well maintained bathrooms, reading materials, comfortable seating, soothing radio and a water station. blankets, pet water bowls and beds are available upon request.
The staff and Dr.'s are immensely knowledgable, helpful and friendly.
Our Kitty had pain, got examined, treated and we left with medication that is, as we speak helping him tremendously with his condition.
Thank you, Mountainside.

I would like to give this place 0 star, but google does not allow me to do that.
Today when I was passing by this animal hospital, I think why I have not write a review for this place. 4 years ago, after I had my cat spayed at my vet, my cat's stitch was torn open and some tissue fell out. It was about 9 PM. I was so scared and worried about her and sent her to here. It was during covid and so stressful since we could not meet the vet face and face. Before going, they said they would charge me $3000. We were extremely anxious, exhausted that day and sent our kitten here. We put the crate outside the door and the staff took her in. We had not have a chance to meet anyone. The next day, they called and said it was just some fat fell out and they stitched back, got her some anti biotic. That was $3000 worth.
This place is a completely rip off. I suggest to anyone who is panic and anxious about your furry baby, never visit this place. Go to Vancouver Emergency. That was my experience.

This is my story. Cat very ill. Friday my vet closed. Took her to this place before the male vet was much kinder and accommodating. This female vet was not. A few months earlier my mom's cat passed. We spent thousands. We had money just not thousands. So we told this vet our situation. She had a blank look on her face. Kept telling us iv and blood work. $2000minimun. She smelt blood, told us she would be back with a estimate. No useful information about my cat. I went to the front desk to tell the front desk woman that this vet is wasting ever bodies time. We don't have that much money. Go back to speak with the vet. Still this vet would not budge, claiming she would not be able to help if we don't spend thousands. Went back to front desk. My 70 year old mom is there with me. She wants a second opinion. Another woman comes out I go speak with her. Still refuses to offer any diagnosis or antibiotics. Blood work really does nothing if there is a infection it will only show high white blood count. I would expect a liscenced vet to be able to make a reasonable diagnosis. Be sympathetic to our situation and do there best. They refused they were willing to let a animal intheir care leave without any help. We left payed them $260 for nothing.we went to atlas vet clinic on marine drive. We got a appointment . Vet took temp said high temp likely a infection. Dehydrated gave her fluids and antibiotics. He said it could be more is said I understand she is a old cat. I left with antibiotics and vitamins and a $300 dollar bill. Very reasonable professional vet understanding. My cat is better today showing positive signs of improvement. So warning. This place charges 1000 s for treatments that I paid 50 dollars for at atlas . This place is filled with cruel money grabbing viel so called vets. They are willing to play hard ball and let your animal leave and die without treatment. I look forward to their response. Be very cautious about bringing your pet to this place👎

If you need to take your pet for any kind of emergency care, Mountainside is definitely the place. They were so kind & caring with my cat (he's ok) and just a huge thanks to the Vetrenarian, Lucy, she was lovely & very kind. So again, a huge thanks to everyone there.

Rude and insensitive receptionist. Very condescending when I requested some pricing and when communicating a change in policy about booking appointments. Argued and spoke over me when I requested to speak to someone else.
That said, I had a great experience brining my cat here as a kitten when we first discovered his heart problem. 5-stars all the way. The staff was supportive and super kind. They helped me make some difficult decisions concerning his care and alleviated a lot of anxiety for me. I then went on to continue to buy his food there for quite some time. Thankfully he's not had any other issues, until now, but if that's how the receptionist is, I don't really see how they are going to care for my animal. Totally off-putting.
