If you have seen my video, you know my hair is tough as nails. Straight, stiff, and uncooperative. Worst of all, I have two very noticeable bumps above my ears that throw off the shape of my head. Many stylists have told me cutting my hair is a real challenge. Since moving to New West last March, I was really hoping to find someone who can handle my annoying hair.

I have been to salons and barbers to private stylists. I get a cut and wash every two weeks, and most places charge anywhere from $20 to $80 (cut & wash). I have gone through at least 10 stylists in New West. Some just couldn’t deal with my hair texture. And no, that vacuum thing doesn’t work on my hair. My short hair is so sharp it literally poked through my last stylist’s skin before she retired.

So when I saw the storefront at Mei and Mei, I thought, “Well, this could go either way.” I figured worst case, I would buzz it all off and try again in 2-3 weeks.

But then Mabel touched my head, asked me what style I wanted, and got to work as if she had been doing this for decades. Turns out… she did!

She shaved the sides to just the right height on both sides, then used scissors to blend the top and sides with a natural curve so it did not look like a military cut. She then thinned the top and shaped it into a short, spiky finish. Just clean, sharp, and exactly what I wanted.

That is when I learned she has been doing this for over 20 years. And it shows. Her skill, speed, and attention to detail are on a whole different level.
