About The Folk Shop
The Folk Shop is a wonderful spot to discover unique instruments and experience the community's passion for music. This is a far-from-your-average music store, offering an ever-changing selection of vintage and unusual guitars, banjos, and ukuleles, including upscale and custom-made models. The staff's vast knowledge and friendly service make the shopping experience even more enjoyable. One room is dedicated entirely to banjos, another to ukuleles, and a third area showcases guitars, mandolins, and even the occasional upright bass. Whether you're a seasoned musician or a newcomer to the folk scene, the shop is welcoming and accommodating. Customers praise the store for being a community-run establishment that sets it apart from big-chain stores, offering personalized attention and making everyone feel part of a shared love of music.
I have been going to this place for many years and must say it is a rare nexus of musical goodness. These folks have: helped me get a case for a rare vintage guitar, given me advice on strings, help me sell a guitar, set up another, and more recently I purchased a used custom Gibson acoustic that is just my size. There is an ever changing inventory of weird instruments to check out and a "Banjo Heaven" too. This is a wonderful shop, thanks for everything, see you again!
This is a fantastic spot to shop for unique instruments. Loved the selection of gift items, and vast array of guitars, banjos, and ukuleles. The staff was amazing and super friendly. Their knowledge is top notch.
What a true jem of a shop. I didn't know what to expect. I walked in and this shop isn't like your everyday music store. There is a whole room dedicated to just banjos. Another room for ukuleles and even a little uke alter. Guitars everywhere and mandolins like crazy. You won't see that at guitar center. I play the uke. I was greeted by Milo and he asked how I heard about the place and I said I heard about it from the Tucson Folk Festival. He said he helped run and organize that for 17 years. Folks this is a community store not a chain store. Please support it. It was the last hour of the day that I visited and I looked at the ukes and they are not your standard Kala types but rather more upscale brands including a custom made $935 8 string with electronics that was a beaut. Milo said I was just in time for their bluegrass jam circle so I grabbed the top end uke (btw, there was even a Ubass in there) and joined them. I'm not to their level but they let me play along and I started to get the hang of it. What a way to gain a customer and let them really try out an instrument. I'll never forget it. Thanks, Milo and friends!
