“Our two-tone completely custom kitchen renovation is exquisite. We would have never been able to afford this using an interior designer and a high-end custom cabinet company. Nevertheless, we were able to get the look and functionality we dreamed with Valley Discount Cabinets. This is a homeowner intensive solution, but well worth it if you know exactly what you want and are on a tight budget.
When you work with Valley Discount Cabinets, you are paying for the cabinets, but you have to bring your own installers to the table. Valley Discount Cabinets will be able to refer you to installers if you don’t have your own. But when you do this option, you are budgeting for two things: the cabinets themselves and the installation. Be sure that you factor in sales tax to your budget for every aspect of your remodel ... I’m embarrassed to say that we forgot to calculate that. Make sure you understand what current labor rates are for installing a custom kitchen.
Using Valley discount was the route for us because we wanted premium cabinets, but not only were we on a crazy tight budget, we wanted to go somewhere else for our slab and somewhere else for our backsplash— not that Valley discount doesn’t have great selections for those things. It’s just that we had some very specific design ideas and were being super picky.
Valley Discount Cabinets does a great job of taking your measurements and designing the kitchen with you. You really need to think about your space and what functionality you need, what functionality you can’t live without, and what you’re willing to compromise. If the price still comes too high, Roberto can make suggestions for changing some of the materials to get you in the range you need to be in.
Valley discount will check your measurements before ordering so you don’t have to worry about that. What you do need to worry about are the things that are out of Valley discounts’ hands, for example if the custom cabinets are built correctly and if all of the components are delivered to the home. Whatever isn’t done correctly, Roberto will ensure gets handled. This is the nature of most renovations and even more so with this solution. It takes about three weeks for the custom cabinets to be built, and it can take a while for the install and any fixes that are required. I would recommend very highly that you go with a traditional and well reviewed kitchen install company. I went with a handyman, and that may not have been the best idea.
There are different grades of custom cabinets from which to choose depending on how tight your budget is. Valley discount also does standard size cabinetry but when they’re dealing with custom builders, it gets infinitely more complicated, especially with a homeowner who’s not an interior designer like we are not.
If the custom builder makes errors, Valley Discount Cabinets will work with them to correct the build. My one warning is that if you do built-in spice drawers, understand that the spice bottles they use are half size, and regular spice bottles will not fit in a standard drawer. You will need an extra deep drawer.
I will say we got some pretty snazzy features, including these amazing blind corner cabinets with pullout shelves that go two shelves high and two deep. Glides like butter. We got a pantry knife rack that actually sharpens the knives as you put them away, swing out pantry and rolling shelf pantry, a banquet bench with hinges and soft clothes deep drawers. The list goes on.
Roberto really did a lot of work to help us get the most out of our space while also helping us achieve some mobility accommodations.”
