Customers often find it to be the coolest barbershop they've been in and consider it a hidden gem. The service exceeds expectations every time, and while it may require a wait, it is absolutely worth it. The shop is cash only, and the atmosphere is fun and welcoming, making every visit a pleasant experience.
CASH ONLY. I came in during my lunch break needing a haircut. Matt was very friendly and welcoming. The place is different than your standard barbershop, but it’s definitely the coolest one I’ve been in. This has probably been my best barbershop experience I’ve had so far. I think I found my new barbershop haha
Update 10/3/24 visit - This is still the best place for a man cave and traditional barber shop combined experience. Matt’s quality and customer service exceeds expectations every time I visit.
Original 2017 review - Expect a wait to get the best service there is! Absolutely worth it! My son and I get our hair cut here. Usually the newest movie is playing (unless the newest movie really sucks and then it's usually something recent that didn't). He also had a PlayStation that my boy could play on while we waited. Once we get in the chair, the amazing service continues and we get exactly what we ask for every time. Worth the wait time and price!
I recently took my adult son, who was in dire need of a haircut and shave, to Matts's. My son suffers from severe mental illness and was homeless and destitute for over two years on the streets of Tucson and then Phoenix. Having been recently rescued from his plight and now being treated for his mental illness, my son is just now beginning his journey of recovery. I chose to bring him to Matt's after seeing on Yelp* that Matt offers face shaves, has great reviews, and has a really unique looking shop. I am so very glad that I did! We arrived at Matt's unannounced as walk-ins and despite my son's apprehension against doing so I asked for the haircut and shave. I suggested to my son, he could always grow his beard back and that all of the hair would then be "new," just as his life is becoming new again. Matt checked his calendar and remarked that by coincidence he had a cancellation and that if my son was ready he could do the cut and shave right then. Matt explained the prices and informed me that the service was cash only. I was totally cool with that and left my son in Matt's care while I hopped out to the nearby ATM. Upon my return, I took a seat in one of the comfy Victorian style chairs in the waiting area, which as one can see from the photos here on Yelp* is like a mash-up of Steampunk meets Action-Horror, meets Fantasy! My son was reclined in the barber chair with a hot towel covering his face. As I waited, I heard Matt speaking to my son, instructing him in which direction he required my son to do this or that with his head position. Earlier, before walked out to make my ATM run, I gave a look to Matt - I was trying to convey that my son required some degree of special handling. Matt certainly picked up on it because the tone with which he was speaking to my son, was one of genuine caring and patience. I was very grateful for such a compassionate approach by Matt! My son was completely shocked at his new look and I just thanked him for allowing me to have his beard shaven off. I asked him what he thought and he said, it's a nice haircut! I thanked Matt for taking us as walk-ins and Matt thanked us for our business. I would definitely recommend Matt's Barber Parlor for anyone seeking a professionally done, quality haircut or shave. And, if you're not in the market for a cut or shave, per se, I think just seeing the interior of this shop was worth the trip! Live well. Be well. Cheers!
