I have a really hard time finding a dentist that will take my insurance. As an "elderly" disabled person, my only insurance is Medicare and Medicaid, and I had no luck finding a dentist in my hometown in WA state, so needless to say, my teeth are not great. I was paying cash for cleanings at my old dentist, years ago, which was over $150 back then, until I couldn't afford it. then I would go get a cleaning only when I could find a dentist having a "free exam with cleaning" special, or a "$35.00 cleaning" special, and the last one pulled a loose tooth for free, but wanted me to come back for $8000.00 of work. I told him that I would "think about it" (he knew what my circumstances were). I didn't go back. I moved to Anchorage last year and I just had my first dental check up and cleaning this week. The hygienist was amazing and didn't lecture me on not flossing (hard to do when your hands don't want to cooperate and have arthritis) and she was scraping for quite awhile. The dentist came in and did the exam and said "Oh, my!! We have quite a mess in here." (I already knew that, so it didn't bother me). Then he said, Tell you what. I need to think about what I can do for you, I WANT to do it all, but with your insurance, I don't know what I CAN do. So give me some time to look into this and I can see you another day and then we'll make a plan. Sound good??" I agreed, and have my next appointment scheduled. A lot of other dentists would do the work and I'd have a huge co pay, I think.
I went in for an emergency extraction, I was super nervous have had bad dental experiences and I recommend them they were kind and did everything quickly.. Getting a dental plan lined out on my next visit this week! Im looking forward to see what he does for my teeth!
The BEST dental experience I have had in years. I had a very bad experience at a previous dentist and I was not looking forward to this appointment at all (it has been four years since I have visited a dentist), and I was embarrassed at my teeth health. The hygienist was so calm and caring and SO good at cleaning my teeth. The dentist did not make me feel embarrassed at all, just the opposite. The doctor told me my teeth were actually nice and healthy and did not pressure me to buy implants or bridges. I will tell everyone to choose NorthStar Dentistry! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
