He’s extremely knowledgeable in realistic street self defense and weapons tactics, and explains the science and history behind his teachings. “Worthy of its stellar 5 star reputation, Shotokan Karate of America stands proudly thanks to its focus on tradition. Following the orthodoxy of their founder Tsutomu Ohshima Sensei, a direct disciple of Master Gichin Funakoshi, and now under Shihan John Teramoto, Shotokan Karate of America prioritizes the true essential teachings of karate-do as taught by Master Funakoshi; not introducing innovations but preserving his tradition. Continuing that historic legacy are some of their current incredible instructors: Erik, Gary, and Brian at the San Diego Peninsula Dojo.Shotokan Karate of America - San Diego Peninsula Dojo prioritizes the values at the heart of martial arts like discipline, tradition, strategy, and the internal spirit. It is a true art form. This place is worth your time, your money, and your dedication.“

“I was eager to begin jiu jitsu as a means to control my body and take charge of my fitness. It can be overwhelming stepping into the room and seeing a mat full of white robes engaged in grappling. Professor Julio is quick to meet your eye with a welcoming smile that immediately makes you feel comfortable. With a brief and almost non-existent tap to his opponent there is an instantaneous few inches of separation and the professor is on his feet with his hand extended to meet you. I was impressed from the first minute. I was out of shape, over weight, unable to perform basic physical acts. Jiu jitsu, with the guidance of professor Julio and his students, reaffirmed my confidence and ability to perform. If you are looking for a family friendly experience and someone to push you, yet not insist you to do too much, Villanueva Grappling Arts Six Blades La Mesa is where you want to be.“

“LOVE this establishment, highly recommend!PROs: Hands down the best choice for martial arts for kids in the area. Master Kenny and his colleagues are true professionals. They have the knowledge and attitude to keep kids attention non-stop while instilling the tenants of Tang Soo Do. My kid loves going to class and it's quite a show to watch. No matter the skill level, they give every child the same amount of attention, discipline, and respect. The very flexible class schedule is also supportive of family schedules. Looking forward to staying here for years to come!CONs: Parking is tough but otherwise this place rocks!“

Aikido is a martial art and as such has a martial approach in it's philosophy, but one of the tenets is to seek ways to avoid conflict. This dojo and the instructors associated with it represent that philosophy as passed down from our principal instructors.“

“As someone new to the sport and culture that comes with jiujitsu, I felt immediately welcomed by the staff. Black belt level expert professors/instructors (most are active competitors currently) make everyone feel important, regardless of skill level. Clean facility with multiple mats/training areas and fitness equipment. No egos. Just common goals. Kids classes, women only classes, competition classes, you name it they got it.“
