Amazing facility and top notch instruction! Professor Julio is extremely knowledgeable and one of San Diego’s best black belts! Professor Julio also is an amazing kids instructor boasting one of the best kids programs in east county.
I was eager to begin jiu jitsu as a means to control my body and take charge of my fitness. It can be overwhelming stepping into the room and seeing a mat full of white robes engaged in grappling. Professor Julio is quick to meet your eye with a welcoming smile that immediately makes you feel comfortable. With a brief and almost non-existent tap to his opponent there is an instantaneous few inches of separation and the professor is on his feet with his hand extended to meet you. I was impressed from the first minute. I was out of shape, over weight, unable to perform basic physical acts. Jiu jitsu, with the guidance of professor Julio and his students, reaffirmed my confidence and ability to perform. If you are looking for a family friendly experience and someone to push you, yet not insist you to do too much, Villanueva Grappling Arts Six Blades La Mesa is where you want to be.
My kids have been learning jiu jitsu here for at least 4 years now. We stopped a little during Covid but the kids love it here. Professor Julio is amazing with my kids and great with adults. There is such a feeling of respect and encouragement here. My younger son is a foster child (now adopted) and Julio has been nothing but patient but firm with him. Both my sons have learned so much about discipline, respect and hard work from him and the other instructors. I myself have started going to the women's class on Saturday mornings and I can't rave enough about the instructor Ro and the environment she creates. The ladies there are open to welcome anyone and cheer everyone on. I can only go once a week but I enjoy it so much. It's just a great time rolling with some ladies who are willing to learn and have fun. Overall, highly 100% recommend this place!
