After over six years at Aikido of Casper—soon to be Aiki-Budo of Casper—I can say it is a great dojo for studying a martial art that’s as thoughtful as it is powerful. Under Sensei Gabriel Phillips’ guidance, this dojo isn’t your typical kick-and-punch studio. It’s a space where nerdy folks like me thrive, diving deep into the details—like how posture and body positioning can generate real power without brute force. Think of it as relearning how to move, the way you might have once retaught yourself to lift a heavy box with a straight back to avoid injury. What sets Aiki-Budo apart is its blend of Aikido’s flowing throws and pins with bits of other arts like Kali, giving it a sharper, more martial edge—perfect for those who want depth over flash. But it’s not just about self-defense. Through meditation, exercises, and practice, I’ve found a calmer, more centered version of myself.
