My mom enjoys living at Laurel Oaks. Her one bedroom apartment is the right size for her, updated and thoughtfully laid out. She's made a number of friends. Everyone is friendly and there are a variety of activities.
The meals are probably the area where she and her friends have the most complaints. There are menu items she would like to eat, but she's apprehensive about excess sodium. Also, some of the food is hard to cut and about once a week she and all of her tablemates leave a portion of the dinner because of this. It's inconsistent - one time an entree will be great, a few weeks later the same entree is unappealing.
My family member has been there since November 2024. The facility is always clean and the staff is friendly. There are fun activities. The power has gone out several times likely due to the weather and the dark stairwells seem dangerous. Perhaps some battery lights could be installed for those times
My father has been at Laurel Oaks 8 years. It was one of the best decisions we have ever made. He is happy, safe, loves the staff, the residents, the activities, and especially loves the food! He lived in the East coast for 75 years and then decided to move to the Milwaukee area to be near me and out family. I was concerned about where he might live. After meeting with the staff and seeing the facility, I was more than convinced, I was excited for him to come to his new home at Laurel Oaks. Since Kari, the Executive Director arrived, Laurel Oaks was taken to an even higher level. The entire facility was remodeled, the roof was replaced, events and outings increased.
