“Wasp problem solved!!
After being stung twice and with a new puppy coming home, I needed a yellowjacket nest in our raised garden bed gone—and I needed it done right.
I had already tried treating it myself, and my existing pest service had treated it as well. I then made numerous calls to other companies, with potential costs ranging up to around $500, but I still couldn’t get clear answers about what would actually be done, whether the nest would be physically located and removed, or what would happen if the first treatment didn’t solve it. I had already waited a week after the previous treatment and the yellowjackets were still active.
Then I called Shane at Wisconsin Pest Control.
The difference was immediate. Shane was knowledgeable, responsive, courteous and professional. Based on what I described and what he saw when he arrived, he quickly understood the situation and explained his process: thoroughly treat the colony, return, locate the nest and remove it. Most importantly, I knew he wasn’t going to simply apply something and leave me wondering what happened next.
His communication was excellent. He gave me advance notice, updated me when he was on his way, arrived when he said he would and understood that I work from home and needed to manage our dogs while he was here.
What made this job remarkable was what we eventually discovered. The yellowjackets were entering through a small opening at one end of the garden bed. Naturally, everything pointed to the nest being near that entrance. Instead, they had taken advantage of a hidden void created beneath the top rail when the bed was originally constructed, combined with some wood deterioration I couldn’t see. They traveled roughly five feet along underneath that rail and then built a large nest about a foot down, much farther away from the entrance.
As Shane said, Mother Nature is incredible.
That explained why previous treatments directed toward the entrance had failed—we simply weren’t reaching the actual nest.
What impressed me most was watching Shane work once the situation became unusual. He knew exactly how these colonies typically behave, but he also knew how to evaluate what he was seeing and adapt when this one didn’t follow the obvious path. He was thorough and persistent. He wasn’t going to stop at the easy answer; he was going to get to the bottom of it.
It also felt like a partnership. Shane listened to what I knew about how the garden bed had been built, combined that information with his experience, and together the unusual construction of the cavity started making sense. That is what great service should be—a knowledgeable professional who listens to the customer, communicates, evaluates the evidence and then takes responsibility for getting the job finished.
Was it money I would rather not have spent? Of course. But I could easily have spent considerably more elsewhere and still been waiting through additional treatments and callbacks. With Shane, I paid for the problem to be solved.
He found the nest, removed it, followed through exactly as promised and made our yard safe again for our dogs and new puppy.
Knowledgeable. Responsive. Courteous. Honest. Thorough. Persistent.
Wisconsin Pest Control—and Shane—will be my first call from now on. Highly recommended.”
