I met with Unity Solar at a home and garden show. A week later, I reached out to them for a quote for solar panel installation. Ultimately, I decided not to install solar panels as I have a ham radio antenna within 10 feet of the proposed roof mounting location.Most consumers do not know that solar installations can cause radio frequency (RF) interference. This is the nature of the DC-to-AC inverters - ALL BRANDS create RF noise that can radiate out of the inverters - particularly onto cables. If a problem occurs, the consumer is ultimately responsible. Having a good installer, that has a good relationship with the equipment supplier, is important.I asked about RF interference when I first talked with Unity Electrical Service personnel, and they actually worked with me - AND contacted their suppliers for guidance - at the quote stage! They informed me of the different suggestions posed by their inverter supplier - and, like me, they questioned one of the suggestions.I cannot move my antenna, which is one of the best solutions to solve noise. Ultimately, because I cannot increase the distance from the panels to my antenna, I chose not to install solar - at least, not until I can measure noise at a local installation using the same equipment.From the outset, I felt that Unity was up front and honest about what they could do, and could not do. And I'd consider asking them to quote a system again if I could get more confidence about not encountering an RF noise problem.
