Wapato Park Off-Leash Dog Park is a spacious, fully fenced park in Tacoma, featuring both lower and upper playgrounds for dogs of all sizes. The park includes extensive trails through wooded areas and offers plenty of flat grassy space for play, chase, and fetch. Despite some rain, the grounds remain relatively dry. While parking can be limited, visitors may park nearby and walk over.
The park has a covered kitchen shelter, with several tables and benches scattered around, including in the off-leash area. The playground, located near the waterfall, is a small area for children to play. Restrooms are available near the playground and community center, as well as by the 72nd Street parking lots.
The dog park is described as a "chill, fenced" area, with both a large and small section. Visitors note that while the park provides dog waste bags and trash cans, not everyone picks up after their pets, which is unacceptable. The dog park is a popular destination, offering a friendly environment for socializing and training with distractions.
This park has a small dog area, 25 lbs or less and a big dog area. There is a covered shelter here with tables. There are 2 grass play areas and a forested area with logs. There are benches throughout the park. Unfortunately there is no restrooms at the dog park, you have to go over to the Activity Center.
For small dogs, my wife and I prefer Wapato park off leash dog park, rather than the small dog area at Steilacoom off leash dog park.
The playground for small dogs is much larger a Wapato Park, and far more interesting.
There is a large grassy lawn in the center surrounded by a circular walking path.
Our four little dogs love sniffing and exploring the bushes and trees that grow along the outer fenced perimeter.
The two benches and gazebo are well-spaced so that there are several places for pet parents who tire out before their pups do.
Wapato off leash dog park is a wonderful place for four-legged friends to socialize.
Awesome park, good hiking trail lots of dog trainers. Be careful more dogs and trainers can lead to more problems most of the time just practice good saftey precautions.
Note people take their kids and small dogs in the [big or all] dog and upper area.
