The medical care I received for respiratory distress was fine, but there is a tangible lack of compassion demonstrated by the care staff. While the two female nurses I encountered were pleasant, the male staff lacked empathy and were generally impersonal (the doc never even bothered to introduce himself). And the wait was unnecessarily long. The Ballard ED really needs some training in bedside manner and compassionate care.

I've been to several ERs and hospital units over the past several years, and this was easily our best experience so far. We came in for an acute back issue, and everything from check in to room assignment to care went smoothly. We worked with Vin Swift, the PA, and he was very kind, thorough and listened to our concerns. Would definitely recommend this as an ER option if it's available to you.

The quality of care is excellent, but they are currently being sued by the state Atty General for training the office staff to avoid telling patients about the availability of 100% discounts on their bills which is due to anyone whose household income is below 300% of the federal poverty level, and 70% discounts for anyone whose household income is below 400% of the federal poverty level.
