As the owners of a specialized contracting company, we knew we would be very particular when choosing a design build firm for our main level home renovation. We always dreamed of transforming our mid-century modern ranch style home located in Reston to be more open with a larger kitchen, more usable living space and a walk-in pantry. We chose to work with Synergy because we knew we could trust them to follow a timely and proven process, that the work would be of the highest quality, and the experience would be positive. We especially liked the fact that they have a lot of experience working with Reston homes. Now after having gone through the entire process, we are happy to say that they met and exceeded our expectations! The most important part of the process was the design phase. We provided Synergy with all of our goals and desires including the feeling we wanted in the space and the challenges we wanted to address. For example, at the center of the main level was a large double-sided, brick fireplace on either side of the kitchen and living space which we hardly ever used. Because of this layout, our living space was chopped up into two smaller spaces and the kitchen was more closed off with limited cabinetry and workspace, and blocked views Synergy put together three different designs that allowed us to visualize the space in 2D and 3D. We played with different parts of the designs and came up with new ideas together to finalize the plans. The team was extremely quick at making CAD revisions to help show us differences in options and changes. We chose the most significant design change with the engineering challenge of removing the chimney and fireplace, moving the kitchen from the front of the house to the back, and adding a full walk-in pantry. One of our favorite parts of the process was working through the details of the kitchen cabinetry, appliance layout and design. It was very methodical and easy. Before we began construction the team went through all of the detailed steps of the process. Synergy set up a very structured construction timeline, helped setup our temporary kitchen and provided weekly updates. We lived in our home during the renovation and they made sure to keep it as clean as possible and safe for our cats. They were exceptional at communicating even when something unexpected came up. Synergy was not satisfied until we were satisfied. We saw this from the detailed carpentry work, to helping us make the right selections especially for lighting selections which were the hardest decisions for us, to the exact placement of lighting or the wall length. The entire team worked carefully, diligently, and made the process easy and fun. At times, we were very particular clients and it never seemed to rattle the team. We were investing a lot into our dream home project, and they wanted to make the space right for us. From the beginning to the very final punch out items, they were responsive and addressed our requests fairly and quickly. This project was very complex and required a lot of custom work. The Synergy team had the skill and experience to plan and execute the work the right way. Amazingly, even with some product delays, they completed the work one week ahead of time!! And wow the space is absolutely gorgeous. Everyone who has seen it says the layout is like it’s been this way forever. Thank you to the entire Synergy team for making our dream into a reality. They did everything they could to make the process as easy as possible on our family. The communication was great throughout the construction process and when issues/concerns did arise, they were quickly resolved. We talked to someone in the industry who told us to expect to be 25% over budget and 50% over on schedule and we couldn't believe how on budget and on schedule our project was!
