Greater Washington Dance Center (GWDC) is a dance studio that strives to help each dancer reach their full potential in a nurturing environment. The curriculum combines ballet's logic and precision with contemporary dance's dynamism, promoting creative, social, intellectual, and spiritual development. GWDC is a welcoming dance home for families. Students, including the reviewer's daughter, appreciate the challenging classes and the positive attitudes towards body image, strength, and diversity. Older dancers serve as excellent role models for younger students. The studio's performance opportunities, especially the annual Nutcracker, are highly anticipated. The studio's leader, Gretchen, is a former professional ballerina with a Master's in Fine Arts in Dance Education and degrees in Theatre and Kinesiology. Amazingly supportive atmosphere. From the teaching staff, the parents and the other students- just great positive energy. My daughter has been dancing here for several years and couldn't be happier.
GWDC is a wonderful dance home for any family. Our daughter loves her teachers and classes and they always challenge her to grow. We are thankful for the healthy attitudes about body image, strength and diversity that are present at the studio. Our daughter looks up to the older dancers who are great role models. The performance opportunities, especially the Nutcracker, are something our daughter looks forward to every year.
I cannot say enough good things about this studio and Gretchen’s leadership. She is a former professional ballerina with a Masters in Fine Arts in Dance Education and degrees in Theatre and Kinesiology so she both knows a lot about the dance world and about bodies. She has crafted a program that will serve any age and any ability level.
