I’ve been with this practice since the beginning! Downtown Portsmouth above the Wells Fargo location. I’ve had a wonderful experience with all the student Doctors there. Well, I had an appointment the other day and this check in receptionist called me up and everything was going well until she asked if I had my insurance card and I was confused because this was a follow up appointment and all this information should have been in the system. As I scrambled to look for the card I asked her “ you don’t have that info on file” she said with an attitude! We have a number not a card that’s why I was asking you if you had a card! I’m a medical professional myself and it everything in me not to respond to the energy that was before me! Ms ghetto fabulous doesn’t belong at any front desk environment! @EVMS family Medicine clean up your receptionist area. In closing the checkout Lady was exceptional.

I don't feel like a number. They make my family and I feel like part of their family. I agree some residents aren't great. But they are students trying to learn as new doctors. So give them a break. Because a lot of them are absolutely amazing.

So frustrated with the way health care has declined while prices continue to go up. I have been a patient of EVMS practices (Portsmouth & Ghent Family) for over 35 years. I know that means I will get new doctors as the current ones graduate. When the new doctors don't have the personality needed to be caring and compassionate doctors, they shouldn't be in those positions to begin with. When a primary doctor doesn't do their primary job to assist their patients, that is a problem. it is neglectful and causes conditions to decline. I had a virtual appointment when I could not physically get to the office, due to a non related injury, and not only did they not tell me they canceled my virtual appt, they call and say the doc wants me to be seen in office because if had almost been a year (it had been 8 mos) and didn't even mention the appt I sat waiting online for. So unprofessional. I have seen 4 other doctors in between, who they could consult with, but why would they do that. Doctors do the minimum posible these days. They cancelled my virtual appt with no notice because the new doctor assigned wants to only see me in person. What kind of racket is this? And what kind of G-d complex does this new doctor have that refuses to do a virtual appointment, so now no other doctor there will either?? I can't breathe due to needing asthma meds. I was seen by them 3 times less than 9 Mos ago, was seen in ER 3 times, had CT scam and MRI, but this doctor won't do a follow up virtual visit because HE didn't prescribe that med from the office I have gone to for 30+ years!!! No big deal, I just can't breathe, and can't drive to get to the physical office due to my back and knee going out, (which he can also see on my chart, as I have been to ortho doctor, sports medicine and had CT and MRI scans done recently.) So no, I don't recommend them. They are supposed to be primary care, but don't communicate with other providers and cancel video appointments because they only want me to go in person, despite telling them I physically am not able to right now due to my back and knee and not being able to drive, or move around too well. Last I checked, house calls are not a thing, and he isn't coming to pick me up and drive me there or paying for me to get an Uber to go, and 8 mos is not an excessively long time since being seen by them. THEY change the provider in office and suddenly medical history of 30+ years means nothing??? Is that how it is everywhere now? For expensive as it is, our health care system sucks! And so does Portsmouth Family Medicine.

I’ve been going here for a couple of years. All the doctors are nice. It sucks they are residents because when you get a good one they graduate and leave. I’m all for that and happy for them. Dr. Lindsey is the bomb.com. She’s thoroughly knowledgeable and reliable. Ever since the office and staff moved to the Epic system and this Sentara MyChart, things have been fluid. Thanks team, my health, wife and son thank you for getting me on the path to a good life!

Top to bottom this is the worst medical practice I have ever been to. Please avoid going here at all costs if you can.

The staff is rude and nothing is ever done about it even after you tell the management.

The doctors you work with leave (graduate) with no notice to the patient. Once they leave, no one is automatically assigned to your care so your prescription refills will sit unnoticed until you make another appointment or call and keep calling until one of your messages eventually makes it through to one of the other doctors there.

If you need a referral to another doctor or specialist, forget about it. Those will not be sent out but they will tell you they were sent and the lady that handles them will argue with you about it until she runs out of breath.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS OFFICE

Don’t come here if you’re paralyzed. They made me wait months with no medical supplies for my wound care. They also don’t send paperwork back to companies in time. They also won’t give me nothing for pain. I been paralyzed for 15 years and I never experienced this type of neglect. They lie real bad in that office too. They don't read charts and will change your medicine without letting you know why. The office supervisor is very rude and they don't know what they're doing.

I was extremely disappointed with the service—or lack thereof—that I experienced during my recent visit. After taking time off work to attend a scheduled appointment, I called ahead as a courtesy to inform the office that I was running a few minutes late. I was told there was a 20-minute grace period, and I arrived within that timeframe.

Despite this, I was informed upon arrival that I would not be seen and would need to reschedule due to the physician being behind schedule—or possibly because the office was preparing to close early, as has appeared to happen in the past. This was incredibly frustrating and left me feeling that my time and effort were not respected or valued.

Additionally, it took nearly a month to receive a prescribed medication. The delay was repeatedly blamed on the transition to a new computer system, rather than anyone actively seeking an alternative solution to ensure I received the care I needed. As a patient in need of medication, this lack of urgency was concerning.

I want to acknowledge that Felicia went above and beyond to finally get the issue resolved after an unnecessarily long wait. I truly appreciated her effort and compassion. However, the service I received today was unexpected and unacceptable—and it reflects not just on the individual staff members involved, but on the entire office and how it operates as a whole.

This experience has left me questioning the reliability and professionalism of the practice. I hope leadership takes this feedback seriously and implements meaningful improvements.
