My daughter is a student at JMU and has been suffering with back pain and tingling in her legs. Urgent care referred her to Dr. Hess and we were so happy to get in to see him within the same week. She arrived at her appointment, he didn't listen to her complaints, NEVER touched or examined her back, and told her "it's probably a disc, go to Physical Therapy." She called me very upset, how is she supposed to go to PT with no diagnosis? What if it caused more damage than good without knowing what it was? She ended up coming home and we went to our primary care who did x-rays and diagnosed her with degenerative disk disease. This will be an ongoing issue she will need to manage and have a Doctor who is on her side and not treating her as a dumb child (she's a legal adult). I can tell you it will NOT be Dr. Hess or Sentara Health Care.

Dr. Hess has the WORST bedside manner I have ever come across. Simply IGNORED the fact I was in severe pain during a procedure on my back. The nurses knew EXACTLY what was happened, and he wouldn't stop for them either! I reported him to the patient advocate, and Dr. Hess called me to apologize later that day. Fake apology, guaranteed, told him how bad he was, and I would be letting people know. The only reason his office is getting the two stars is because SOME of the office staff know how to treat patients with humanity. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE

Having been seen at the Sentara RMH emergency room for a workplace injury, of course I was referred to a doctor in this office. Unfortunately that was Dr. Secretov. After 3 visits I contacted workman’s comp to discuss my experience, and they allowed a second opinion with no further questions asked. In essence my was doctor told me that surgery was not the solution, that I should “get over it”, and he ordered an injection and I was asked to point to or select where I wanted said injection. I had a successful surgery at UVA Orthopedics, and would not recommend this facility based on my experience.
