I enlisted in the Marine Corps in the early 1990s and was frequently told about the incredible work done by the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society. I was encouraged to contribute to this charity, with the assurance that they would help me if I ever found myself in need. As a teenager, I had never participated in charity before, and when your drill instructor advises you to take action, you typically comply. After completing boot camp, I continued my monthly contribution of $15.00 without giving it much thought, simply renewing my donation each year.
