About Mount Olivet Cemetery

Vaults can be purchased through the cemetery or a mortuary. Many visitors appreciate the beauty and peacefulness of the cemetery, noting it as their favorite in Salt Lake City. However, some recent reviews indicate a decline in maintenance, with reports of patchy grass, overgrown areas, and prairie dog holes. Additionally, visitors have expressed frustration with the early closing time of the cemetery, suggesting that later hours would be more accommodating. Despite these concerns, Mount Olivet Cemetery remains a significant location for those seeking tranquility and a connection to history.
I chose Mt. Olivet as the memorial for my loved one 13 years ago because of its beauty and how well cared for the cemetery was. I come back several times a year to place flowers, and have noticed a significant decline in how well cared for things are now.
I was there just this past weekend and the grass is patchy and overgrown. There are Prairie Dog holes everywhere and some of them are pretty big with mounds of dirt dug up.
Not sure what has changed but it isn’t a pretty cemetery anymore and it’s disappointing.
Incredibly beautiful cemetery, and it’s actually my favorite one in all of SLC. They just close waaaaay too early! Last couple times I came by a man in a truck pulls up and tells us that he’s closing the gates the minute I arrive. 8 PM would be a much better time, especially since I prefer to visit when the sun isn’t so high in the sky.
I always go here when I need to think and find peace, my family is resting at the SLC cemetery up the road and it is not as well maintained. I would often visit with my young children and have a picnic in the peace and quite , My beloved Honey Bee my soul dog would come after every visit from the University Veternay to watch the squirls from the window and eat her donut . It's nice to have a quite, peaceful place to visit with so much history.
