About Escalante Heritage Center

The Escalante Heritage Center is a great place to visit, offering interesting information and pictures in its outdoor area. The museum tells the story of the 1879 expedition to establish a Mormon mission town and find a faster route through the Escalante River Canyon. Visitors can learn about the persistence and strength of settlers through murals, info signage, and a video inside. While the main building was closed during some visits, the outdoor exhibition remains a worthwhile stop to explore.

    Amazing stop!

Located on the north side of Utah State Route 12 (UT-12) just before entering town center on the eastern side. There is a oversized parking lot, numerous outdoor interpretive displays and information boards, restrooms, office building and a small farm equipment display to the rear of the center. Worth the stop.
